17 A feasible transformation of the energy system in Germany is not possible without increased storage and an expansion of the transmission and distribution infrastructure! Currently the available storage facilities in Germany total only: 0.07 Twhel As the storage requirements for 2050 are predicted to be in excess of 40 TWhel there is a serious shortfall. The GOOD NEWS is that the current gas network is capable of handling 110 Twhel and the infrastructure is planned for expansion to more than 200 Twhel 17
