1 Position Description Campaigner POSITION TITLE: POSITION TYPE: Campaigner Full time DEPARTMENT: LOCATION: REPORTS TO: Campaigns North Melbourne Director of Campaigns NUMBER OF DIRECT REPORTS: N/A Position purpose and context: Animals Australia is Australia s foremost national animal protection organisation. We provide a voice for animals by investigating and exposing animal cruelty and conducting groundbreaking campaigns. OUR MISSION: ORGANISATIONAL OVERVIEW: to investigate, expose and raise community awareness of animal cruelty. to provide animals with the strongest representation possible to Government and other decision-makers. to educate, inspire, empower and enlist the support of the community to prevent and prohibit animal cruelty. to strengthen the animal protection movement. DEPARTMENT: This position is part of the Campaigns Department. The Department is responsible for developing and implementing strategic and innovative campaigns that achieve the organisation s mission and vision, while maximising supporter and member engagement and increasing Animals Australia s standing as Australia s leading animal protection organisation. POSITION PURPOSE: The Campaigner is responsible for supporting the Campaigns team to implement effective and efficient campaigns. The role assists in developing a broad range of internal and external written

2 communications from producing web content to communicating with supporters on key campaign and lobbying opportunities. Animals Australia employees, volunteers and contractors KEY STAKEHOLDERS: Supporters and donors Policy and decision makers Under direction: CONTENT CREATION: Develop content that inspires, empowers and resonates. Draft high quality written communications tailored for a variety of audiences and mediums, including web features, advocacies, broadcasts, alerts. Create original concepts that result in effective, engaging and compelling communications. Collaborate with key stakeholders to update web content in a timely manner. CAMPAIGN SUPPORT: PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES: Support the Campaign Manager to plan and coordinate campaign collateral creation and strategies. Provide communications support to the Senior Management team. Work with the Supporter Services team to respond to escalated enquiries. Undertake other tasks, as required, to support the effective implementation of Animals Australia s campaigns. RESEARCH: Provide succinct and solidly referenced research on relevant topics. Maintain a comprehensive and contemporary knowledge of Animals Australia campaigns and emerging animal welfare issues. Proactively assist in identifying and sourcing creative communication opportunities. Role requirements: COMMITMENT: ATTRIBUTES: Demonstrated commitment to the objectives and values of Animals Australia. An understanding of Animals Australia s major campaigns and contemporary animal protection issues. Understanding of effective advocacy and a keen interest in the field of social and human behaviour change. OUTSTANDING COMMUNICATION SKILLS: Exceptional writing skills with extensive experience developing written communications for a variety of audiences and

3 mediums. Ability to produce compelling copy and translate technical information into engaging and persuasive communication. Eye for detail to ensure accurate content. SELF-MOTIVATED, WELL ORGANISED AND EFFICIENT: Ability to juggle multiple tasks at the same time using initiative to manage your own schedule, work efficiently and deliver timely results to a high standard. FLEXIBLE AND ADAPTABLE: Proven ability to work under pressure, both autonomously and within a small team environment. Happy to do whatever is needed to get the best outcomes for animals. CREATIVE AND INNOVATIVE: Demonstrated problem solving skills with the ability to think strategically and innovatively. A high level of initiative, enthusiasm and creativity. TECHNICAL SKILLS: Understanding of web media and writing for web. Understanding of basic web-based applications to publish online content and basic HTML for content formatting. DESIRABLE: Understanding of SEO strategies. Experience using Adobe suite (Photoshop, Dreamweaver). Experience developing and/or editing short-form videos for social media.
