2 Introduction Thank you for taking the time to read this information pack. This is a really exciting opportunity to work with WaterAid at a time when we have launched our new global strategy, with a vision of everyone everywhere having access to safe water and sanitation by Although a fundamental human right, over 650 million people don t have safe water and over 2.3 billion people lack an adequate toilet a situation totally unacceptable in the 21st century, and which leads to over 500,000 children dying every year from preventable diseases such as diarrhoea. WaterAid works in 38 countries across six continents. We work alongside communities and partner organisations from government, civil society and the private sector, to catalyse the changes needed to improve access to safe water, sanitation and hygiene for the poorest and most marginalised. Our global strategy renews our commitment to accelerate transformational change by focusing on four aims reducing inequalities; strengthening sustainable services; improving hygiene behaviour; and integrating safe water, sanitation and hygiene into all areas of human and economic development. Our Internal Communications Officer has an important part to play in helping us to be a more effective global organisation. Sharing news, information, knowledge, ideas, skills and resources has never been more important in terms of the successful implementation of our strategy and the delivery of our goals. The People and Organisational Development Team (or People Team for short) plays a critical role in helping WaterAid realise its goals. We lead on the development of strategies that ensure that WaterAid people are aligned and engaged with our aims and objectives, and that they have the skills and opportunities to maximise the impact they can make. We work with managers across the organisation to support great people management and to create a high performing environment. Our remit includes strategic internal communications, security management and facilities management. The Leadership and Engagement team is a part of the People Team and focusses on building the capacity and engagement we need to deliver our strategic aims and to make WaterAid a great place to work. As Internal Communications Officer within this team, you will have an important role in the delivery of internal communications across WaterAid and for managing a number of global digital communications channels. You will help to empower and inspire others to create engaging and informative internal communications through effective capacity-building. 2

Job Purpose The Internal Communications Officer is responsible for the planning and delivery of creative and innovative internal communications across WaterAid and for managing a number of global digital communications channels. The Internal Communications Officer also has a key role in supporting, empowering and inspiring others to create engaging and informative internal communications through effective capacitybuilding, relationship management and inductions. Accountabilities Plan and deliver effective and creative internal communications that inform and engage WaterAid employees across the world, including writing and compiling features and stories, producing and editing video content, drafting all-staff communications, and producing news round-ups and summaries. Provide advice and support to colleagues to enable them to communicate effectively for maximum impact including advising on choice of channel, editing copy, and ensuring communications are branded in line with guidelines. Produce the global fortnightly newsletter, by liaising with colleagues across WaterAid to generate relevant content suitable for distribution, managing the distribution list, and ensuring that the newsletter is sent out on time and with accuracy. 4

5 Moderate and manage the WaterAid Yammer community as a key internal engagement channel. Run the weekly Monday Morning Meetings (15-minute staff meeting on a Monday morning attended by all UK employees), including coordinating presenters and managing audio-visual content effectively for those in the meeting room and for those joining remotely Maintain positive working relationships with key networks and communications stakeholders around the world, including communications officers across our country programme network. Maintain a comprehensive internal communications calendar, working with colleagues across the organisation to identify key dates and milestones for internal and external projects, campaigns and other communications. Provide appropriate support and guidance for the organisation and facilitation of virtual meetings, global events and webinars, including providing training and capacity-building for others. Run internal communications induction sessions for all new starters in the UK and support colleagues around the world to deliver similar sessions Provide dedicated internal communications support to the leadership and engagement team in the delivery of key projects and events. Person specification A degree level education or equivalent work experience. Excellent writing and editorial skills. Previous experience in an internal communications environment, including experience of managing content on an intranet or website. Experience of presenting, facilitating and training delivery (either formally or informally) to a range of internal audiences with a coaching approach that builds capacity rather than dependency. The ability to forge effective working relationships and influence key stakeholders within a dynamic global environment. The ability to work across cultures and time zones, and with people for whom English is not a first language. Experience of delivering communications and webinars to people outside of the UK would be an advantage, as would a working knowledge of French. Excellent IT skills, including experience of Office 365 applications such as Yammer, Skype for Business and Sharepoint. Knowledge and experience of using design software (Adobe InDesign, Photoshop etc.) and video editing software (Moviemaker, Final Cut etc.) Accuracy and keen attention to detail necessary to produce high quality communications. 5
