1 HSECQ Review of 2016 JKX Board of Directors

2 JKX believe that an efficient, safe and effective environment, as per industry standards and definitions, can be achieved in our operations if tailored approaches and management are used, the results can exceed the JKX expectations and have improved in 2016, and further opportunities exist to carry these improvements forward. All the involved parties have agreed that, irrespective of traditional practices, compliance with the JKX Standards is a pre-condition of work and to strive together to achieve them in terms of HSECQ, quality schedule.

6 The Carbon Disclosure Project 2016 JKX have submitted results to the Carbon Disclosure Project since 2007 and have made steady progress up the league table of companies with our reporting and awareness to improve the Carbon Management process. We annually collect all Environmental data and analyse our carbon impact. It is interesting to note that no company has achieved band A to date. We are encouraged to see JKX in the leading group of reporting companies. 8 ACHIVEMENTS IN 2016 (1) Improved Management Commitment Good results of visible management commitment that is driven from the top of the organisation in 2016,improved auditing, attending meetings are evident, some opportunities for improvement have been identified and discussed with senior staff. Sound Safety Policy These have been revised and re-issued in 2017 at all locations, one to one sessions with location managers and HSE staff have taken place. Safety is a Line Management Responsibility A line manager or superintendent is ultimately responsible for safe working in his area. This has taken some time to initiate, results are coming through and is evident by monthly reports and evidence from site visits that due diligence exists. Still more effort to improve is required. Competent HSECQ Advisors Working closely with local HSECQ Managers and HSECQ Supervisors to improve standards. Contractors encouraged to improve competency levels of HSE staff.pre-mobilisation reviews have proved very useful tools for establishing ground rules with contractors. High, Well Understood Standards Without standards there is no basis for measurement,jkx has a fully compliant HSECQ Management system with OHSAS and ISO with accreditation ongoing. Techniques to measure performance Without measurement there is no verification STOP Sampling Management Walkabouts BSB Auditing. Some progress this year, but improvement opportunities exist.

9 ACHIEVEMENTS IN 2016 (2) Realistic HSECQ Targets and Objectives All people within JKX or Contractor organisations understand more clearly their contribution to the safety of the operation. JKX has registered for the Carbon Disclosure Project in 2007 and developed a Carbon Management Plan. Monthly / annual reports from all locations are now submitted to the JKX HQ and include health, safety,environmental and community statistics. Audits of Standards and Practices Audits provide JKX with an opportunity to review its standards and working practices in a systemised way. Improvements have been identified for a more efficient approach to audit and monitoring activities Training Training and competency issues have been reviewed with improvements identified. Incident Investigation Incidents and accidents are the result of sub-standard acts and conditions from which we all must learn and establish correct investigation levels. Near miss reporting improvement plan has been developed and reporting is improving. The amount of incident reports in 2016 was increased compared to 2015 Effective Motivation and Communication The success of the JKX HSECQ programme depends on people... How they are motivated... How well they communicate with each other. Visits by HSECQ advisors to other locations have helped to foster better understanding of corporate standards.

10 Opportunities for Continuous Improvement 2017 Review and improve the JKX HSECQ Management System. Achieve Accreditation for OHSAS at PPC. Prepare for Accreditation for ISO at PPC. Maintain OHSAS & ISO at JKX Monitor and Improve the Carbon Management Plan. Introduction of BBS & Health Monitoring/COSHH/REACH initiatives. Review and improve training needs and competence assurance. Identify opportunities to improve consultation and Community Liaison Plans. Seek opportunities for improved relationships with local governmental entities. Seek opportunities for improved Contractor Selection and Management support. Identify opportunities for improved Risk Management /Risk Assessment activities. Examine Waste Disposal and Recycling opportunities for improvement. Assess local HSECQ staff and identify opportunities for improvement. Identify opportunities for improved Hazard and Near Miss incident reporting. Ensure improved ER plans are implemented and tested. Review Maintenance / PTW / SIMOPS procedures and planning. Implement Equality & Diversity Policy

13 A culture in which an HSE-MS can flourish A solidly implemented HSE management system (HSE-MS) is an essential basis for good HSE performance. Outstanding performance and continuous improvement will only be achieved when there is a culture in which the elements of the management system can flourish. Culture Assessment Culture can be divided into five levels of development, from the Pathological to the Generative. The characteristics of the JKX cultural status reflect the current level of our organisation. Thinking about personal behaviours related to each cultural level helps to identify how we can contribute to improved HSE performance. In a strong culture everyone: demonstrates safety as a value is always alert to expect the unexpected fully understands what they should do is open to new ideas wants to make a difference and believe their behaviours make a difference for others In particular Managers: do not just manage, but show genuine leadership and see others perceptions and behaviour as a reflection of their leadership
