3 Job Description Job Title: Graphic Designer Hours: 35 per week Responsible To: Creative Manager Works With/Key Contact: All Marketing and Commercial colleagues Fundraising Operations Communications External agencies and suppliers Location: London Duration: Permanent Responsible For: N/A Salary: 28,000 per annum Established in 1860, Battersea Dogs & Cats Home aims aim to never turn away a dog or cat in need of our help, caring for them until their owners or loving new homes can be found, no matter how long it takes. We are champions for, and supporters of, vulnerable dogs and cats, determined to create lasting changes for animals in our society. We currently operate from three centres in Battersea London, Old Windsor in Berkshire and Brands Hatch in Kent. Every year, we care for over 7,000 dogs and cats. In 2016 Battersea reached its highest ever position in the Charity Brand Index at 14th, we are also firmly established within the top 10 in the YouGov UK CharityIndex. Trustees and Directors have approved significant investment for the new Marketing and Commercial directorate in This will transform the capability of the marketing function and enable the development of a new brand, marketing and digital strategy. Responsibility for brand and creative will sit in a new Brand team; responsibility for content, social media and online community development and management will sit in a new Content & Communities team; responsibility for marketing campaign project management, the website, search and display, marketing and bespoke digital projects will sit in a greatly enhanced Digital team. These teams will require inspirational leadership and a number of marketing specialists to take on key roles. This is a rare opportunity to join an iconic charity brand and help to build a world-class strategic and creative team that will deliver a step change in a well-known charity s approach to its brand, marketing and digital activity. We're looking to recruit a talented, graphic designer for our busy in-house design studio. Working alongside the Creative Manager your role will be to interpret and implement our creative vision across a broad range of projects ranging from graphics, print and digital. The ideal candidate will have a strong graphic design and artwork background with capable skills in digital and motion. Main Purpose of the Role To bring the Battersea brand to life by creating, sourcing and delivering high quality print and digital creative to achieve Brand, Marketing, and organisation-wide objectives.

4 Overall Objectives Develop and deliver high quality creative and content for Battersea and all its brands Generate first-class concepts, visuals and creative ideas for cross-organisation campaigns Responsibilities Approx % of time 1. Oversight and delivery of creative output including graphic design for across print and digital platforms, including video, animation and photography in line with 40% organization and marketing objectives 2. Design of on-line and offline campaigns, collateral, signage, branded products that deliver against organisational. Support and play a key role in the creation of the 20% charity s websites through cross-platform design work 3. Provide operational advice and support to all departments and satellite sites on the 10% use of the brand and content 4. Maximise the use of pro bono creative resource, by supporting and overseeing the work of interns and the sourcing of ad hoc specialist creative for key campaigns 10% including photography, animation, video and ad hoc digital specialists 5. To be a Battersea Brand Guardian check the consistency and quality of all inhouse and externally produced creative and content and ensure it is adhered to 10% across the Home 6. Record hours on all design jobs and maintain workflow and filing systems 5% 7. Stay on track with trends in graphic design, typography and emerging digital trends and culture, attending events and engaging with the wider creative community The above job description is intended to be an outline of the duties and responsibilities for this role. Decision Making and Accountabilities Accountability Brand reputation Management of pro bono external brand and content delivery resource Accessibility Person Specification Essential A proven track record of creative achievement in marketing, graphic design and brand development across print and digital campaigns including visual storytelling An exceptional online portfolio showcasing innovative design concepts and highly considered visual executions delivering against organisational and marketing objectives A full understanding of graphic design, typography, and digital standards Experience in design solutions across print and digital platforms Excellent working knowledge of Adobe InDesign, Illustrator & Photoshopwith strong photographic, typographic, video production and editing skills, literate in macos 5%

5 Excellent working knowledge in After Effects or Premier Pro An understanding of what makes good UI design, and related concerns such as: User experience design, wireframing, component based design and understanding user needs. An understanding of frontend web technologies (HTML (5), CSS, JavaScript) and their limitations. Experience with collaborating with internal digital teams Good interpersonal and consultative skills and the ability to build relationships and credibility with colleagues Proven experience of delivering engaging content that delivers against organisational and marketing objectives on time and on budget Ability to prioritise and deliver high quality work with minimum supervision, to be able to multi-task under pressure to tight deadlines and bring people with you on key decisions Good problem solving and decision making skills with a good mix of evidence based decisions balanced with pragmatism, innovation, flexibility, and common sense Excellent written and verbal communication skills Meticulous attention to detail Able to promote an understanding of, and a commitment to the vision, mission, and values of Battersea Dogs & Cats Home Desirable Not for profit experience in a similar role Experience in developing web applications and/or software development Experience of management of external agencies, consultants, and suppliers Position in the team
