These health inequalities are avoidable. Governments have a responsibility for addressing health inequalities but ordinary people can also help create a society without health inequalities. People s Health Trust invests in people with great ideas to create fairer places in which to grow, live, work and age. We receive funding from money raised by 51 society lotteries through The Health Lottery ticket sales. We are an independent charity that distributes this money to people across England, Scotland and Wales with great ideas to make their communities even better. We believe that people make change. About the post We are looking for a Policy and Research Officer who can help us demonstrate the impact of what we do, and has knowledge and experience of evaluation and research, alongside a broad knowledge of health inequalities. The post-holder will provide high-level analysis needed to help us understand a range of issues. You will be using data and your quantitative and qualitative research background to make a real difference for people who bear the brunt of health inequalities. You will be comfortable working with large datasets, and with qualitative and quantitative research. You are able to gather and interpret the latest findings of research on health inequalities, analysing the implications of current policy developments and translating complex papers for a lay audience. This is a newly created role in a busy organisation.

3 Post Location Responsible to Policy and Research Officer London Director of Policy Job Description A Policy and Research Officer who can help us demonstrate the impact of what we do, and has knowledge and experience of evaluation and research, alongside a broad knowledge of the wider social determinants of health. Purpose of role To provide high-level analysis needed to help us understand a range of issues relating to wider social determinants of health, using large data sets and qualitative and quantitative research experience and knowledge To gather and interpret the latest findings of research on wider social determinants of health, analysing the implications of current policy developments and translating complex papers for a lay audience. To provide research support to the Director of Policy, including provision of administration across the team, as required. Specific Responsibilities Policy Team To research and analyse information relevant to wider social determinants of health. To play a key supporting role in the Trust s evaluation and reporting activities. To keep up-to-date with wider social determinants of health research. To contribute to briefings for the Director of Policy. To work with the Director of Policy in providing support to the Trust s external evaluators and funded projects as required.

To communicate effectively with external audiences, including representing the Trust at external events, as required. 6 Terms and Conditions Fixed term contract 6 months (with possibility of extension) 35 hours a week Salary 27,000 per annum, pro rata 6% employer pension contribution, once probationary period has successfully passed (pension will then be backdated) Leave entitlement: 25 days plus bank holidays (pro rata) Location: London A probationary period of six months will apply
