After a 58-year hiatus, the Senators franchise was reborn in 1992 against all odds. The hockey club made a triumphant return to the ice on October 8, 1992 with a 5-3 win over the Montreal Canadians in Ottawa. You have demonstrated success in providing strategic and business counsel at the executive level. You are a forward thinker and confident decision-maker who will challenge the status quo by finding creative financial solutions, while remaining sensitive to the complexities and multi-dimensional aspects of Senators Sports & Entertainment. Together with the President and the rest of the leadership team, you will drive strategy and accountability, determine appropriate financial and operating metrics, lead your team, and manage relationships with key stakeholders; including ownership, lenders, NHL and others. You possess excellent communication and interpersonal skills, combined with a strong team orientation and professional approach which will allow you to effectively lead, coach and mentor a team of professionals while working collaboratively with colleagues at any level. Key Responsibilities I. Primary Objectives Acts as a member of the Executive Team, participating in the determination of long term strategies and planning aspects. Provides detailed analysis, advice and guidance to the President and senior executives on finance, treasury, and administrative matters. Assesses SSE s financial performance compared to the plans on a regular basis, identifies and monitors key performance indicators, and provides guidance on corrective measures Collaborates and co-operates with VPs and other senior management to ensure key objectives are achieved. Develops strong relationships with all SSE team members, and provides financial and economic support to the President, sales, marketing and other VPs.
5 II. Debt & Equity Management Oversees the management of Senators Sports & Entertainment existing debt portfolio and arranges new financing as required. Responsible for the financing strategy to ensure availability of resources to meet operational and capital spending requirements. Develops and nurtures relationships with key financial stakeholders, including lenders, NHL and others. III. Treasury and Cash Management Manages hedging activities for Senators Sports & Entertainment. Oversees cash flow management activities including forecasting and planning for effective use of resources. IV. Financial Controllership Ensures that clear accountability processes are in place and effectively utilized. Ensures sound financial processes and budgetary discipline throughout the organization including identifying and implementing cost and efficiency improvements to meet SSE s objectives. Oversees internal and external financial reporting including, internal accountability for departmental results and performance measurement, reporting to external stakeholders including lenders, NHL and others. Oversees planning and accounting for capital expenditures. Implements effective tax planning strategies. V. Administrative Management I. Information Technology II. Human Resources III. Legal IV. Capital Tickets V. Digital Transformation Responsible for the strategic and long range planning of SSE s information systems, human resources programs, legal functions, and Capital Tickets operations to enable the company to meet its operational and strategic goals. Evaluates all administrative projects and activities to ensure high quality service levels are provided.
6 Continuously reviews current status and best practices to improve effectiveness and efficiency. Leads the development of the digital strategy for SSE. VI. Staff Management Builds a positive work environment by managing direct reports to ensure effective utilization of all team members strengths. Celebrates successes. Responsible for inspiring direct reports and building motivated high-performance teams Reporting Relationships Directly reports to: Directly manages: President Finance, Human Resources, Information Technology, Legal, Capital Tickets Supplementary: Periodic reporting to owner, Eugene Melynk
7 Candidate Profile Experience Senior executive experience in a complex organization that has significant external stakeholders. Minimum of 15 years in a financial leadership role, with 10 or more years at a senior level Demonstrated success managing complex debt structures, including negotiating terms with lenders, security and covenants, reporting requirements and lender relationship management. Extensive knowledge of financial and administrative functions, including accounting, audit, financial and tax planning, analysis, complex debt and equity financing, IT and human resources. Experience working at a corporate strategic level with President, and other senior executives. Strong business acumen and operational instincts. An undergraduate degree in business/finance/accounting or related field is required with a professional accounting designation. Competencies for Success Catalyst Able to gain business alignment to successfully identify, evaluate and execute strategies and serves as a business partner to other key decision-makers. Establishes a structure of corporate accountability for results, drives enterprise execution and gains acceptance from peers and other stakeholders. Business Planner and Strategist Provides a financial perspective on innovation and profitable growth; leverages this perspective to improve risk-awareness, strategic decision-making and performance management integration. Leads the annual corporate planning process Oriented toward long-term strategic success.
8 Financial Insight Has the knowledge and ability to identify and handle financial challenges proactivity. Possess the ability to communicate effectively with key stakeholders, and commercial lenders regarding financial and strategic plans. Capable of structuring complex debt financing Relationship Management Sets direction and motivate teams members, utilizing their strengths and potential Is skilled at getting individuals, teams and the entire organization to perform at a higher level and to embrace change.
