8 Objectives / Aims Improve the performance of Mediterranean ports in the field of cruise tourism improvement of: information system, organisation and efficiency of cruise passenger services in the Mediterranean ports special focus on: port of Koper (and hinterland)- pilot project Reduce externalities - negative effects of cruise tourism on the environment/society,(congestion.) Increase efficiency of existing infrastructure improvement of intermodal tourist logistics and port hinterland operations through better organization (optimisation of traffic flows based on the improved cruise passenger information system) EA SEA-WAY - 1st cross fertilisation event, Trieste, 4th February 2014

9 Current situation ANALYSIS: regional stakeholders, cruise passengers Congestion passengers (disembarkation and embarkement) and local tourist providers Lack of information (passengers) tourist attractions, events (static information: flyers) Local public transport options (no information) No information on tourist behaviour (port) What do they want to see (priorities, wishes..) and what in reality they have seen? 11 Searching for a solution for group B and C Available time frame and control over time Because of limited available time the passengers are usually staying in the areas near the port. Pssenger logistics aspect To move between coastal cities/tourist attractions there has to be a reliable transportation. Transport providers/all options and their services. Local tourist atractions A passenger needs information about all possible local/regional tourist options, grouped by common characteristics /activities. 12 system-basic requirements Easy to use A great user experience: Must not sidetrack its users from experiencing the city and its surroundings. Must guarantee control over users time! An innovative solution Off-line working capabilities Koper has not a unified Wi-fi network, data roaming is something that tourists usually avoid. Therefore the solution should be able to operate without continuous data connection. Two-way communication When connected to the internet (on-line mode) solution needs to offer two-way communication with local providers (booking, purchasing, commenting ) (INFORMATION DATA BASE FOR OPTIMISATION/PLANNING/STRATEGIC DEVELOPMENT OF SERVICES, DYNAMIC DEMAND/SUPPLY ADJUSTMENT )

23 Conclusions Concept developed - close co-operation with local/regional stakeholders based on in depth analysis of the problems and needs Main output is not an application (app) but platform for supplying /gathering information for cruise passengers and local stakeholders Investment is needed (financial / human resources) for developing, testing and implementation (each port specific needs/conditions plans, which have to be taken into consideration) Aim live pilot, best practice transfer to interested in other MED ports
