11 INTERNATIONAL PROGRAMS ORGANIZED BY MANAGE As a part of USAID funded Programme four 60-days training programmes were conducted for the Officers from Kenya, Liberia and Malawi on New Dimensions in Agricultural Extension Management consisting of 30 Participants in a batch. After the completion of the training programmes a visit was paid by MANAGE Faculty to the above mentioned countries for feedback. - Five Programs were completed from 2013 to 2015 A ten days Training Program for Indonesian officials on Agricultural Extension Systems and Community Development was conducted during 1-10 December, 2014 under Bilateral Agreement. Two Training Programs of 10 days duration for Afghanistan Officials on PPP and Gender Mainstreaming in Agriculture were conducted during

12 MANAGE Initiatives in promoting Agribusiness MoU with RenB on Agribusiness Incubator MANAGE has signed an MoU with M/s RenB (a Mumbai based Agribusiness Company to set up Agribusiness Incubation Centre at MANAGE. Young Graduates/ Post-graduates in Agriculture/ Agri-Business Management will be facilitated to set-up their start-up Ventures. Hand-holding and Financial support will be facilitated to the budding Agripreneurs to set-up their own business. 12

14 PG DIPLOMA IN AGRICULTURAL EXTENSION MANAGEMENT (PGDAEM) One-year distance learning course for serving Extension Functionaries To provide continuous education in Agri. Extension Management Self-learning study material (English and Hindi) Pre-recorded video sessions by experts on course content in DVDs in English and Hindi Total Number of Extension functionaries covered 14,727 PGDAEM candidates will be involved in Short-term Research Projects 14

15 DIPLOMA IN AGRI.EXTENSION SERVICES FOR INPUT DEALERS (DAESI) Objective is to transform Input Dealers into Para-Extension Workers Study material in local language 48 Contact Classes and field visits on Market holidays at District level spread over an year Some states are funding a part of course fee So far 3555 Input Dealers were trained across the country Conducted 3 rd Party evaluation- Outcome very encouraging Refresher Programs introduced 15

16 DIPLOMA IN AGRI.EXTENSION SERVICES FOR INPUT DEALERS (DAESI) Mission To transform practicing input dealers into para-extension professionals thereby strengthening the agricultural extension system so as to enable these input dealers to serve the farmers better. Objectives Orientation of input dealers on location-specific crop production technologies of broad-based agriculture with reference to field problems Building the capacity of input dealers in efficient handling of Inputs To impart knowledge about the laws governing regulation of agricultural Inputs To make input dealers an effective source of farm information at the village level (one stop shop) for the farmers

17 DIPLOMA IN AGRI.EXTENSION SERVICES FOR INPUT DEALERS (DAESI) Eligibility Criteria for Candidates Practicing input dealers - appeared at least for 10th standard exam Candidates sponsored by the input Agencies/agribusiness companies/agri-cooperatives etc. Duration Spread over a period of 48 weeks, with 40 classroom sessions and 8 Field visits conducted on Sundays or local market holidays Course Fee: Rs.20,000/- i. Subsidized by DAC, GoI, (Rs.10,000/) and Input dealer by Rs 10000/-. ii. Agribusiness Companies - Rs.10,000/-and the balance Rs.10,000/- equally by DAC and the input dealer (ii) Agribusiness companies sponsorship can be considered for tax benefit under 35 CCC, subject to other conditions laid in the notification. (iii) Jharkhand, Orissa and Tamilnadu are contributing part of Course fee from RKVY

18 DIPLOMA IN AGRI.EXTENSION SERVICES FOR INPUT DEALERS (DAESI) Methodology Input dealer can pursue the program without affecting his day-to-day business Focus is on location-specific field problems and expose them to relevant technologies Study material in local language Multi-media instructional devices are used in the classrooms DAC release funds to MANAGE and from MANAGE to SAMETI SAMETI organize the program through KVK, Agricultural College, and other NTIs

19 DIPLOMA IN AGRI.EXTENSION SERVICES FOR INPUT DEALERS (DAESI) KVK may participate in implementation of DAESI KVK may act as Nodal Training Institute (NTI) KVK may provide venue for other NTIs (like ATMA) for conducting the program KVK may share / resource persons to handle the sessions DAESI enrolled candidates may use the labs and other demonstration units of KVKs during their exposure visits KVK may provide hands on experience in their field with the help of scientists KVK may share the literature available with them KVK may help in identifying the local issues and problems and help in developing location specific study material.

The amount of Rs.2500/-, earmarked for each candidate for Monitoring & Certification (Item-12), may be apportioned among SAMETI (Rs.500), ATMA (Rs.500), NTI (Rs.1000) and MANAGE (Rs.500).

37 Kisan Call Centre (KCC) Launched in 2004 to provide Agricultural Extension Advisory Services to farmers through telephone (Toll-Free Number) instantly on demand in local language by trained agricultural professionals. Has 3 levels of answering Level-I, Level-II and III Audio advise is followed by SMS to farmer s mobile All 365 days, KCC works from 6.00 am to pm MANAGE is the Nodal Agency for AP & Telangana States and acts as Level III Institution During Jan-December 2015, 6,58,102 calls received with an average of 54,842 calls per month MANAGE Coordinates Training of all the KCC FTAs (by concerned SAUs) on behalf of DAC, MoA, GoI 37 37

38 Background Use of Telephone and Mobile Phones, including SMS facility getting popular. Wide gap between number of Public Extension Functionaries and Large Population of Farmers. Effective use of ICT would supplement efforts of public extension. Farmers need facilitation to use ICT tools to meet their information needs. Kisan Call Centres offer a solution to extension functionaries in reaching large number of through extension. Kisan Call Centre is a system of extension blending all the resources of ICT to deliver Need based Information to farmers. The Scheme is in Operation since January 2004.

45 Eligibility Criteria Extension functionaries graduated in Agriculture and Allied sectors Other Graduates currently employed in the Dept. of Agri. / Allied sectors of Central / State and UT Govts. and SAUs. Preference is given to extension functionaries in the govt. dept. BTMs and ATMs of ATMA and functionaries of KVKs. Graduates in agriculture, allied subjects and other graduates working in agribusiness companies, NGOs, Cooperatives, farmers organizations, Agri-entrepreneurs and input dealers.

46 Course structure and Contents The Programme is offered in two semesters with 10 courses + project work. 1 st semester - 14 credits 2 nd semester - 18 credits (1 credit = 30 hours of study)

49 Progress as on July 2016 A total of candidates, have been enrolled in PGDAEM since its inception. The eighth batch of PGDAEM was completed in December 2015, and the ninth batch is in progress. So far, candidates up to the eighth batch have successfully completed the program and the overall pass percentage is 70.
