1 AUCTION OF FARMS Jakkal-Omuramba (No. 677) Maieberg (No. 790) Keilberg (No.1371) Friday, 21 August 2009, 12h00 at Namboer Auction Pens Windhoek, Namibia Hotlink: GoogleTM maps
2 1. General Information Farm 1: Jakkal-Omuramba No ha Farm 2: Maieberg, No ha Farm 3: Keilberg No ha The farms are located in north-central Namibia, 40 km north-east of Otavi, 400 km (4hrs) north of Windhoek. Otavi, Tsumeb, and Grootfontein are easily accessible within less than an hour s drive and provide schools and all shopping and business needs. The previous owners were founding members of the Otavi Mountain Conservancy in the 1990s with 6 neighbours over an area of several ten thousand ha of diverse and intact ecology. Etosha National Park to the north and Waterberg Plateau Park to the south, two of Namibia s finest historic tourist attractions, are within easy reach of the farms. These farms were managed as an integrated cattle farm for 80 years by the Volkmann family. The land includes typical, lush bush areas as well as scenic mountain ranges with open valleys. Above average rainfall and excellent soil properties provide high potential for dry land crop farming. The land has excellent potential for commercial hunting and/or game ranching with an abundance of freeranging resident game. Game species available include Kudu, Warthog, Jackal, Eland, Oryx, Duiker, Dik- Dik, Bush baby, Cheetah, Leopard, Serval, Zebra, Porcupine, Aardvark, Baboons and a huge variety of birds. The mountainous terrain makes for ideal retreat settings and exceptional tourism appeal. Elevations ranging from 1500m to 2000m above sea level ensure a most temperate climate. Because of a healthy ecology and the diverse habitat zones (including dolomite and sand stone mountains, savannah-like valleys and dense bush thickets) the farm enjoys an extraordinary diversity of bird species. It is an ornithologist s paradise.
3 The elaborate infrastructure allows for the application of a high impact, fast rotation cattle grazing system modelled on holistic management principles (See the technical data section below for production records since 1986). Pastures are divided by conventional cattle fences as well as an extensive web of solar powered electric stock fences. Water is supplied from four reliable deep wells (at least one on each farm) and is widely distributed by a well designed system of pressurized and gravitating pipelines to 11 cattle posts (5 of which allow for intensive cattle handling). There are 3 earth dams (at least one on each farm) of which two are integrated into the cattle watering system. Electricity is supplied by Nampower and distributed to all dwellings. Telephone is provided by Telecom Namibia and there is full cellular phone and G3 (mobile internet) coverage across all three farms. The fully functional homestead (on Jakkal-Omuramba) includes a large farmhouse (4 bedrooms and two bathrooms), a manager's house (one bedroom and one bathroom), 6 well built family staff houses, 2 single staff quarters, a shed, a well tended, organic vegetable garden (including compost plant), and a fully functional poultry yard. The homestead is surrounded by graceful umbrella acacia trees which, together with the beautifully landscaped garden, create an atmosphere of peace and tranquillity and lend the property a distinctly African appeal. There is an open view to the homestead s own earth dam, where game can be viewed from the veranda and garden at all times of day and in all seasons. The climate is ideal for gardening with only occasional frost during winter. Vegetables, Citrus, Passion Fruit, Mulberries, Guava, Peaches, Bananas, Mango, Avocado, Strawberries, Gooseberries, Papaya, and a huge variety of flowering shrubs and flowers thrive seasonally under irrigation.

JAKKAL- OMURAMBA SEASON (MM) MAIEBERG (MM) KEILBERG (MM) Average Production Record, Grazing and Pasture, Carrying Capacity Production Record Production record per ha is presented here from statistics under the previous owner s management (until 2004). This included grazing of rented neighbouring Auros until May Differences in carrying capacity with or without Auros are negligible. Production system was a cross-bred (Simmentaler, Brahman, Afrikander, Nguni) cow-calf operation with the aim of selling fully grown two year old oxen. Average weight of animals from 2000 to 2004 was 360 kg. Therefore, the stocking rate of heads/hectare is based on animals of 360kg. Kg/ha stocking rate was calculated accordingly.

Start selling cattle as Auros is given up May Grazing and Pasture The three farms are developed for high intensity cattle farming. In total, 5510 ha of grazing is accessible. This area is currently divided into 70 paddocks of an average size of 92 ha. This excludes 37 ha of crop fields (de-bushed, last crop in 1999) and smaller paddocks for continuous grazing for a few milking cows near the homestead of Jakkal-Omuramba. Since April 2004 the farm has been leased to a farmer who also runs a cow-calf operation on the three farms. Grazing patterns follow similar guidelines as previously applied by the owners: All cattle run in a single, large herd that is moved to fresh grazing approximately every 3 days. This grazing system has contributed to the preservation of excellent pasture quality with an abundance of perennial grazing Carrying Capacity In July 2009 the farm is stocked at approximately 1 LSU/10 ha or approximately 650 head (cows & calves) on 5500 ha accessible grazing area. Regular game counts conducted through membership in the Otavi Mountain Conservancy show that the game population is steadily increasing. 3. Images For photos please visit
