3 Mission of WG 1 Integration and Sharing of Agriculture & Aquaculture technologies, resources and expertise within the APEC Ecosystem NTU APEC Centre for Sustainable Development for Agriculture and Fishery Sectors was setup and funded by Singapore to co-ordinate this effort 3 Current Collaborations in Progress Currently, we have a total 9 ongoing projects and 2 projects in discussion Projects are mostly between privates sectors involving 5 countries Singapore, Malaysia, Indonesia, China and Philippines All projects are technology related 4 2
4 About the Centre APEC Centre for Sustainable Development in Agriculture and Fishery sectors was setup in August 2016 in Singapore Joint effort with Nanyang Technological University 5 Role of the Centre Provide a Model for member countries to setup Technology Resource Centre (TRC) in their country to facilitate transfer of technologies, incubation of technologies etc 6 3
5 Agriculture & Fishery Sectors Role of the Centre Platform for R&D and technology Dissemination in APEC PPFS for both small stake holders, SME and big companies Facilitation platform for Public Private sector collaboration Traction point for identifications of sustainable technologies from various APEC economies 7 WG1 - Centre for Sustainable Development in Role of the Centre Incubation and rollout of promising technologies Develop and support the WG1 initiative and long term plan for Sustainable Food Production 8 4
6 WG 1 - Centre for Sustainable Development in Feedback from Member Economies To include the focus on use of natural resources eg sustainable use of water for agriculture irrigation To include the focus on Soil Erosion & land degradation Study the risk of agriculture & risk coping/ insurance in the light of climate smart agriculture Agriculture and Aquaculture industry impacted negatively as a result of Global Warming Development of new feed for fish, shrimp and technology for overcoming pollution Implementation of mixed farming/ multi trophic farming 9 WG 1 - Centre for Sustainable Development in Feedback from Member Economies Big Tenant farmers Small Landlord Programme - Old farmers renting their farmland to young professional farmers Successful development of Pig Vaccine for Disease Management Use of Education to change young people mind-set on farming Rapid results test kit for detection of chemical and pesticide residue in crop Use of renewal energy Crop development Plant that can absorb pollutants in soil Increasing efforts to reduce fish loss Re deployment of fishermen into other industry 10 5
