5 THE GENESIS OF CSN PROJECT Long lead time to mature project (5 years) Project initiated by one O&G operator desiring to have fibre connection with its offshore assets before being transferred to a Telecom operator to enlarge business case (O&G operator shifting from CAPEX to OPEX funding) Project execution started by ASN in September 2011 with system commissioning completed in January 2013

7 CSN SYSTEM DESIGN Repeatered trunk and repeaterless branches toward offshore platforms, physically disconnected from the HV on trunk path 1 express fibre for Telecom traffic and 1 omnibus fibre for traffic with platforms (one wavelength per platform) OADM BU on trunk for the connection to branches Landing on fixed platforms through J-tube or with Uraduct protection strapped onto jacket piles

14 CONTRACTURAL CONSIDERATIONS Service contract with O&G platform owner Key points to be addressed before contract signature, in relation with O&G platform connection works: Access to platform owner data (work permit procedures, as-laid information on subsea assets ) Detailed responsibility matrix for the products and services required on platform Insurance scheme Logistics with platform Establish framework for efficient approval process on procedures and equipments, where approval is required from O&G platform owner

15 CONCLUSIONS Technical characteristics of optical fibre system connecting offshore platforms are very similar to classic Telecom system However such project requires very specific PM, engineering and HSE capabilities to deal with the interface with O&G asset owners. Recommendations for successful contract execution: Early teaming with knowledgeable supplier Upfront engineering to detail the solution offered and responsibility matrix (preferably through FEED study) Schedule in Contract the specifics aspects relative to works required within O&G asset exclusion zone
