Refer to Section LEED Requirements and Procedures, the LEED Rating System, and the LEED Canada Reference Guide for Core & Shell Development In order to achieve LEED Gold Certification for the Project, the Contractor and all Subcontractors, suppliers and manufacturers shall comply with all requirements as specified in Section LEED Requirements and Procedures, and they shall be fully aware of all required laws and available strategies to achieve the maximum credits, including any applicable exemplary performance levels, for the following:.1 Erosion and Sedimentation Control..2 Construction Waste Management / Product Waste Recyclability..3 Recycled Content..4 Local and Regional Materials..5 Certified Wood..6 Construction Indoor Air Quality (IAQ) management..7 VOC/Low-Emitting Materials Compliance.

3 Project No Page LEED CERTIFICATION REQUIREMENTS (Continued).3 This Project has an appointed Project LEED Consultant who shall provide the overall strategies for the LEED certification program. All queries regarding all general LEED activities, document submissions, site procedures and proposed strategies pertaining to the achievement of LEED certification should be directed to the Project LEED Consultant..4 The Contractor shall immediately appoint a Contractor LEED Coordinator to oversee all daily on-site activities and submission procedures and documentation pertaining to the LEED certification program. The Contractor LEED Coordinator shall liaise directly with, and provide up-to-date monthly progress reports at month end to, the Project LEED Consultant throughout the Project..5 After award of contract, each Subcontractor shall immediately appoint a Subcontractor LEED Coordinator to liaise with the Contractor LEED Coordinator throughout the Project..6 After award of contract, Subcontractors shall attend a LEED orientation meeting with their selected Subcontractor LEED Coordinator, in accordance with Section LEED Requirements and Procedures..7 After award of contract, all Subcontractors shall submit to the Contractor LEED Coordinator all LEED Submittals Checklists, including all information, data and MSDS on materials and products included in their bid with respect to recycled content, regional materials, and indoor air quality in accordance with Section LEED Requirements and Procedures..8 The Contractor LEED Coordinator must confirm that the Subcontractor s submissions are complete and verified prior to the Subcontractor s first progress draw application, and any subsequent progress draws, as required..9 Refer to Section Waste Management and Disposal for product waste recyclability requirements..10 The project scorecard outlines targeted credit thresholds. Please note that the scorecard is subject to change throughout project development and construction, and will be updated as necessary. Updates will be communicated by the Project LEED Consultant to the Contractor LEED Coordinator, and the Contractor LEED Coordinator will ensure all Subcontractors and other related parties are also immediately aware of the updates. 1.5 QUALITY ASSURANCE.1 Installation shall comply with governing regulations and shall be to approval of authorities having jurisdiction..2 Materials, workmanship and application procedures shall comply with the requirements as herein stated.

4 Project No Page QUALITY ASSURANCE (Continued).3 Construct reinforced concrete block masonry in accordance with B.C. Building Code and CSA- S304.1 and to conform to seismic restraint requirements of the Code..4 Materials shall be subject to manufacturing tolerances or variations as hereinafter specified..5 Erection shall be subject to manufacturing tolerances or variations as hereinafter specified..6 All masonry work shall be carried out by skilled erectors experienced in the installation of the products specified and type of work to be undertaken..7 Concrete masonry practices and work standards shall also comply with Canadian Masonry Contractors Association (CMCA) Masonry Practices Manual. Comply also with CSA-S304.1 as applicable..8 Testing laboratory, appointed and paid by the Owner, may test mortar as required to meet the specified standards..9 Notwithstanding the visual inspection requirements for concrete masonry units of CSA designated standards, all units shall be free of all surface indentations, surface cracks due to manufacture or chipping. All units so delivered shall be culled for use for exposed purposes. 1.6 SAMPLES.1 Submit samples of masonry materials, on request of the Consultant. 1.7 PRODUCT DELIVERY, STORAGE AND HANDLING.1 Deliver masonry units on pallets and protect with polyethylene sheets. Any units stained or chipped or materials affected by inadequate protection shall be replaced..2 Cementitious material and aggregates shall be stored in accordance with the requirements of CSA-A Stack masonry units to avoid chipping. Protect from weather and soil. All materials shall be kept clean and dry..4 Deliver cement, lime and mortar ingredients with manufacturer's seals and labels intact.

5 Project No Page JOB CONDITIONS.1 Existing Conditions: Consult with and cooperate with other sections in advance and build in or make provision for installation of work to avoid cutting, patching and making good..2 Environmental Requirements: Materials shall not be worked or be applied under temperatures and conditions below the recommended level specified by recognized standards of manufacture. Do not lay masonry when the temperature is 5 C or less, without providing hoarding and equipment for heating block and mortar materials. The temperature of the water when placed in the mixer shall not exceed 60 C and the resultant mortar shall be a temperature between 10 C to 33 C. Keep all materials under cover and protect from moisture and frost. Leave hoarding in place at least three (3) days after completion of the work to ensure proper curing of mortar..3 Protection: Cover top of completed and partially completed masonry walls not enclosed or sheltered, with waterproof coverings at end of work day. Drape cover over wall and extend 24" down both sides. Anchor securely in position. Protect adjacent facework from marking or damage due to masonry work. 2 PRODUCTS 2.1 MATERIALS.1 Cement: Conform to CAN/CSA-A , normal Portland cement..2 Mortar Aggregate: Conform to CSA-A179, washed and kept clean; sharp and free from organic materials..3 Grout Aggregates: Aggregates to consist of clean, uncoated grains of sound material and to conform to CSA-A23.I. Coarse aggregates to pass a 3/8 sieve..4 Hydrated Lime: Shall conform to ASTM C Water: Fresh, clean, potable, free from deleterious matter, acids or alkalis..6 Concrete Masonry Units: Conform to CSA-A165.1 hollow load bearing blocks. Type shall be H/15/A/M for standard weight blocks, in accordance with Table 1 of CSA-A All blocks shall be standard Grey colour. Size: 8" x 16" x widths as scheduled, with all special units required to complete masonry work as indicated and scheduled, including lintel blocks as required, all as specified above and by same manufacturer. Include all bond beam units, special corner units, intersections, end blocks and similar units. Where indicated or scheduled, concrete block shall be ULC fire rated block to provide required fire resistance rating.

6 Project No Page MATERIALS (Continued).7 Concrete Block Wall Horizontal Ladder Reinforcement: 9 ga. side rods and 9 ga. cross rods; all galvanized; welded at 16" o.c. Reinforcing rods to comply with ASTM A82 and CSA G30.3. Width of reinforcing to be 2" less than thickness of wall; all without drip..8 Concrete Block Ties and Anchors: Suitable for securing concrete block to structure; to CSA-A370 and as indicated on the Structural Drawings..9 Reinforcing Steel: Within concrete block masonry as indicated on Structural Drawings. 2.2 MORTAR TYPES.1 Mortar: Mortar shall be Type 'S' as per CSA-A179, Table 2; colour grey for all concrete block. Mortar shall be proportioned within the limits set forth in Section 6, Proportion Specifications of CSA A179. Consistency of mortar shall be adjusted by minimum amount of water addition consistent with workability to provide maximum tensile bond strength..2 Concrete Grout: Shall be in accordance with the structural drawings (3/8" aggregate, 6" slump). Minimum compressive strength at 28 days shall be 25 MPa. 2.3 SOURCES.1 Use the same manufactured brands and sources for mortar materials for the entire project, in order to ensure uniformity of mixes and colouration. 3 EXECUTION 3.1 INSPECTION.1 Inspect surfaces and job conditions prepared by others before commencing work..2 Report defects in writing to the Contractor, if deemed necessary. Commencement of work indicates acceptance of all conditions..3 Examine drawings and job conditions; coordinate with other sections of related work so that this work can be performed without cutting, fitting or patching other surfaces. 3.2 WORKMANSHIP.1 Workmanship shall conform to CSA-S304.1 and CSA-A Build masonry work true-to-line, plumb, square and level, with vertical joints in proper alignment.

7 Project No Page WORKMANSHIP (Continued).3 Tolerances for exposed masonry work shall be:.1 Variation from Mean Plane: Exposed masonry 1/8" under 8'-0" straight edge..2 Variation in Masonry Openings: 1/4" maximum..4 Assume complete responsibility for dimensions, plumbs and levels of this work and constantly check same with graduated rod..5 Masonry courses to be of uniform height and both vertical and horizontal joints to be of equal and uniform thickness..6 Build in frames, blocking, nailing strips, lintels, beams, angles, bolts, anchors and other miscellaneous metal work, conduit, sleeves and inserts..7 Frame around ducts, conduits and pipes passing through walls and fill in with masonry above ductwork to effect proper closure and to receive firestopping in fire rated walls..8 Install special units as may be required to form corners, returns, offsets, reveals and indents without cut ends being exposed and without losing bond or module..9 Fit masonry closely against electrical and plumbing outlets, fitments and sleeves so that collars, plates and covers will overlap and conceal all cuts..10 Cull out all masonry units with chips, cracks, broken corners or off- textured faces..11 All masonry walls shall be scaffolded so that the work is carried out in maximum 48" lifts..12 Back faces of exposed walls shall be constantly checked to avoid misalignment or tilting of units which cause variations in joint width..13 No partially set masonry shall be moved or readjusted..14 Where resetting of masonry is required, cut out and clean opening removing all old mortar and reset masonry in new mortar bed..15 Control joints shall be continued through bond beams if not otherwise shown. For reinforcing bond beam at joints see structural drawings..16 Grout in all door frames in masonry as the work proceeds. Frames shall have a perimeter raked 1/4 x 1/4 space for caulking. 3.3 CONSTRUCTION - GENERAL.1 Do not wet concrete masonry before or during erection of walls..2 Lay units with thick face shell up, with mortar setting bed trowelled continuously over all surfaces.

8 Project No Page CONSTRUCTION GENERAL (Continued).3 Bond for all concrete block walls shall be running bond..4 Tamp units firmly into place to give a solid bond with a 3/8" uniform joint..5 After units have initially "set-up," continuously back tool and point joints..6 Exposed joints shall be concave joints. Concealed joints shall be struck flush..7 Thoroughly bond all corners without losing bond; break back bond one half unit for alternate coursing..8 Use special shaped units where indicated, specified or required. Exposed open cells not permitted..9 Concrete masonry units shall have face cells and end joints fully filled with mortar and joints squeezed tight. 3.4 BONDING AND ANCHORAGE.1 Unless otherwise shown, where interior concrete block masonry partitions meet with walls, or ceiling slabs a firm bond shall be provided with metal anchorage, as indicated on structural drawings..2 All masonry shall be anchored to its lateral supports. Anchorage shall be as indicated on structural drawings. 3.5 REINFORCING - CONCRETE BLOCK WALLS.1 Reinforce all concrete block walls with horizontal ladder type reinforcing with minimum 12" laps, every second horizontal joint throughout entire walls..2 Concrete masonry walls shall be reinforced to conform to B.C. Building Code for seismic restraint and as indicated on the structural drawings..3 Reinforcing bars shall be straight except for bends around corners and where bends or hooks are detailed on the drawings..4 Horizontal reinforcing bars shall be laid on the webs of the units in a continuous masonry course, consisting of bond beam or channel units, and shall be solidly grouted in place..5 Vertical reinforcing steel shall have a minimum clearance of 1/4" from the masonry, and not less than one bar diameter between bars..6 Wire reinforcement shall be completely embedded in mortar or grout. Joints with wire reinforcement shall be at least twice the thickness of the wire.

9 Project No Page GROUTING OF REINFORCED.1 Reinforcing steel shall be secured in place before grouting starts..2 All reinforced concrete masonry hollow units shall be built to preserve the unobstructed vertical continuity of the cells to be filled. Walls and cross webs forming such cells to be filled shall be fully bedded in mortar to prevent leakage of grout. All head joints shall be solidly filled with mortar for a distance in from the face of the wall or unit not less than the thickness of the longitudinal face cells. Bond shall be provided by lapped units in successive vertical courses or by equivalent mechanical anchorage..3 Vertical cells to be filled shall have vertical alignment to maintain a continuous unobstructed cell area not less than 2" x 3". Any overhanging mortar or other obstruction and debris shall be removed from inside of cell walls..4 Cleanout openings shall be provided at the bottom of all cores containing reinforcement at each lift or pour of grout where such lift or pour of grout is in excess of 24" in height. Any overhanging mortar or other obstruction or debris shall be removed from the insides of such cell walls. The cleanouts shall be sealed before grouting, after inspection..5 Mortar projections and mortar droppings shall be washed out of the grout space and off the reinforcing steel. The minimum dimension of the grout space shall be 3"..6 All cells containing reinforcement and anchor bolts shall be filled solidly with concrete grout and vibrated immediately with ¾ vibrator to completely fill cells. Do not over vibrate..7 Grouting of beams over openings shall be done in one continuous operation..8 When inspections find hollow or unfilled sections of walls required to be filled, break out and pack voids solidly with mortar mixed with nonshrink admixture..9 The surface between the grouted wall joint at the floor line shall be roughened by an approved method prior to starting construction of the masonry above. 3.7 CONCRETE BLOCK LINTELS AND BOND BEAMS.1 Install concrete block lintels over openings in masonry walls as required. Set block, reinforce as noted on structural drawings and fill with concrete of strength indicated on the Structural Drawings..2 Install concrete block bond beams where indicated and where required for bearing of structural members..3 Make bond beams of single scored blocks with reinforcing bars placed in bottom, as noted on structural drawings, and fill with concrete of strength indicated on the Structural Drawings.

10 Project No Page CONTROL JOINTS.1 Provide control joints in block walls in locations shown on drawings and as detailed, on the structural drawings and leave ready for caulking under Section Where not indicated provide control joints at maximum 20'-0". 3.9 CUTTING AND PATCHING.1 Cutting of masonry units exposed in finished work shall be done with approved type power saw. Where electrical conduit outlet or switch boxes occur, grind and cut units before services installed..2 Obtain approval before cutting any part or area which may impair appearance or strength of the work CLEAN UP.1 At completion of masonry work, excess material, rubbish and equipment resulting from these operations shall be removed from the site and the building left clean and tidy PROTECTION.1 Protect work of other sections from damage resulting from work of this section POINTING AND CLEANING - EXPOSED CONCRETE MASONRY.1 On completion of concrete masonry work fill all holes and cracks, remove loose mortar and cut out defective work..2 Clean thoroughly all exposed concrete masonry surfaces as follows. As work progresses, after initial set of mortar, strike joints and wipe the wall surfaces with a damp sponge or burlap. Restrike the joints INSPECTION AND TESTING.1 All reinforcement, anchors and portions of concrete block work to be grouted may be reviewed by the Consultant before cleanouts are closed, or grouting is commenced..2 The Owner may engage and pay for the services of an approved independent testing agency to perform strength tests on masonry units and mortar cubes in accordance with local By-Laws..3 Any deficiencies found as a result of these tests shall be corrected by this Subcontractor at no additional cost to the Contract.
