ALDI STORES CONCRETE SALES FLOOR The Fricks Company Floor Construction Quality Control Prerequisites and Details

Jobsite Conditions and Requirements When everything is in place and ready for FRICKS mobilization, our work for installing the Sales Floor Concrete Slab can be performed in three (3) days. The Fricks Company has made this presentation listing the details to be prepared by ALDI Stores General Contractors as well as to document the conditions and details to be employed by FRICKS in order to meet ALDI s expectations of the Sales Floor Slab. The benefit of establishing these technical detail guidelines would be: A standardized pre-pour building required conditions list The preparation work executed by FRICKS before and during construction to achieve the details required by ALDI. Reducing the defects that have affected productivity and quality on past stores. Assurance of a safe working environment. These details and guidelines will aid substantially in providing the same conditions on every store that ALDI requires.

1. Weather Protection/Ventilation The building must be "dried-in" and weather protected prior to Fricks mobilization. Adequate ventilation provided either by removing the shop windows or by providing a ventilation system compliant with OSHA s 29 CFR 1910/ Adequate ventilation is required to maintain a safe working environment and to prevent damage to the slabs. Fans are to be supplied by the General Contractor which FRICKS will utilize in doorways and hallways to maintain airflow inside the building. 2. Lighting Conditions Adequate lighting inside the stores is necessary for the safety of the workers, productivity of the workers, and the quality of the completed work. Illumination should be compliant with OSHA CFR Subpart D. If permanent lights are not in place, five (5) strands of temporary lighting should be suspended from the joist covering the entire pour area generally running along the length of the work area. Fricks will not provide temporary lighting. Openings to be located on opposite or adjacent sides to allow adequate airflow. ALDI Store #24 had sufficient temporary lighting, which is critical for the finishing work.

3. Benchmark A clearly marked, certified benchmark needs to be provided to FRICKS located inside the building. This benchmark will be used to confirm the elevations of all existing slabs and sidewalks the sales floor slab ties into as well as subgrade elevations. Ideal benchmark notation. 4. Existing Slab Elevations Should there be any discrepancy between any two slabs that the sales floor ties into that exceeds ¼ ALDI shall be contacted to provide further direction to Fricks and the General Contractor. All discrepancies need to be identified and corrected prior to Fricks mobilization on site. Verification of slab and subgrade levels underway.

Subgrade preparation at the Aldi in Forney was acceptable. 5. Subgrade Conditions and Elevation The subgrade shall be turned over to FRICKS with a variance no more than ¼ from the specified grade or cross-sections +/- to balance. The subgrade aggregate base needs to be compacted according to design specifications and proof rolled prior to FRICKS mobilization. Tire impressions must be less than ½ with no subgrade pumping. Above shows the unsatisfactory subgrade compaction at this Aldi Store. The removal of any excess subgrade material shall be the responsibility of others. Additional material should be on hand and a roller compactor should be available for additional compaction of subgrade material.

Fine Grading, Compaction and Proof Rolling 6. Fine Grading FRICKS shall furnish labor and equipment to fine grade only for the sales area concrete floor on grade left at +/- ¼ to balance. The subgrade must be properly rough graded, compacted and proof rolled prior to Fricks mobilization on site. VIDEO: Fine Grading & Compaction VIDEO: Proof Rolling

7. Armored Joints The General Contractor shall be responsible for installation of the armored joint at the back of house slab where it will tie in to the sales floor slab. 2 pieces of armored joints for the tie-in to the sales floor slab shall be provided by FRICKS with a minimum 2 weeks notice. If the armored joints are needed less than the two weeks notice then arrangements by the General Contractor will have to be made for delivery. 2 pieces of 12 ft. length armor joints to be installed by others are only at the office door openings and back of house entrance. Double armored joints will be supplied and placed by Fricks at the front vestibule entrance. The General Contractors shall construct the side walks to the front main door and the back mandoor only to the outside line of the wall. It is recommended that the front side walk be installed after the sales floor slab placement to prevent damage during the installation of the sales floor slab. Double armored joint placed at the rear mandoor, similar to what is done for the front vestibule entrance. 12 armored joint placed at the office door opening.

8. Diamond Dowels All diamond dowels and pockets, that are required at all construction joints between the sales floor slab and all other tie-in slabs, shall be supplied and installed by the General Contractor. All diamond dowel pockets shall be installed 18 O.C. at the center of slab depth and levelled for all construction joints between the floor sales slab and concrete slabs by others. These pockets must be installed level and straight. 9. Utilities/Electrical Conduits/Drains Whenever utilities, conduits or drains are located inside the sales floor slab, a related representative (plumbing, electrical, etc..) needs to be made available during preparation and placement of the sales floor slab. All conduits and pipes need to be embedded sufficiently in the subgrade to prevent damage during slab placement. FRICKS will not be responsible for any damage to underground conduits that result from insufficient cover. Elevations of all conduits located in the sales floor area are to be confirmed by others and completed prior to FRICKS mobilization on site. FRICKS will not place concrete over horizontal exposed conduits or pipes that would be embedded in the slab. This increases crack potential. Prep work for the diamond dowel pockets 18 O.C. at center of the slab. Elevations of pipes embedded in the floor sales slab were verified by the plumbers on site.

10. Protection of Freezers, Milk Coolers, and Finish Products during the Sales Floor Slab placement. When possible it would be preferred to have the protective shipping wrap remain in place over the coolers and freezers to protect from concrete splatters and scratches. 11. Wall Protection It is highly recommended to avoid placing the wall board before the slab as there is no way to circumvent it s absorption of the wet-cure water. The use of waterproof wall board is recommended for the lower 2 ft. FRICKS will not be responsible for water damage to wall boards. Protective wrap placed over cooler doors, columns and walls during concrete placement. Strip of waterproof wall board installed at an ALDI Store.

12. Concrete Temperature Control The amount of ice to be used will be decided the day before the concrete pour, and shall be determined using the weather conditions of the previous four (4) days in combination with the forecast for the day of the pour. 13. Water Supply Water needs to be provided for the wet cure and washing out of equipment and tools. Water meters where needed are to be supplied by others. 14. Washout Area A washout pit for the concrete ready mix trucks shall be provided and maintained by others and the removal of this washout pit after job completion is to be by others. Fricks will not be held responsible for any fines issued by SWPPP for the concrete washout pit. Designated Washout Area

15. Saw Cutting ALDI provides the desired saw cut layouts. Saw cuts will have a maximum spacing of ten (10) feet O.C. Each Way with a depth of 1 ¼ +/- 1/8. Saw cutting shall be executed with a Soff-Cut saw and vacuumed as soon as possible. Saw cuts will be adjusted in the field when necessary. ALDI Store Saw Cut Layout Plan Saw cutting underway with vacuum attached.

16. Wet Cure The wet-cure period shall be no less than 7 days during which time it will be covered with wet-cure blankets and no lifts or equipment will be permitted. Wind blocks must remain in place during this wet-cure period to prevent drying out of the slab. Fricks will remove the wet-cure blankets after the 7 days cure period and clean the slab surface. It should be noted that the wet-cure blankets are a slip hazard and the General Contractor should communicate this to all Subcontractors. Wet-curing process underway.
