The best practice retrofitting examples The best practice examples have all performed an increase of energy efficiency of 30 % minimum. Each example shows a comparison between the U-values before and after renovation. To reach the minimum of 30 % energy saving, a comprehensive renovation of the building is usually necessary. This includes at least the renovation of the facade, the windows, the roof/top ceiling and the ground floor. This means that the building envelope is fully renovated and modernized.
% energy saving Energy savings of most interesting examples Austria 1 Austria 8 Austria 11 Bulgaria 2 Bulgaria 4 Denmark 1 Denmark 3 Denmark 4 France 7 Germany 2 Latvia 2 Netherlands 2 best practice examples Netherlands 9 Slovenia 2 Slovenia 3 Sweden 1 Switzerland 5

An international workshop
Lessons learned Learnings from the database Learnings from the courses New network New projects
Succes stories courses as communication tools and action promotion Story no. 1: One project of energy intelligent retrofitting has already started as a result of the project. The retrofitting takes place in Denmark, in the suburb of Copenhagen Albertslund with participation of the Danish energy expert company Cenergia. It s a retrofitting of 250 row houses. Story no. 2: Courses in energy intelligent retrofitting will be continued in five of the six partner countries. This will increase the number of social and cooperative housing organisations that have been involved in EI-Education Story no. 3: The project has been invited to tell about the project at a conference on low carbon for social housing organisations in London. The conference took place on the 21st January 2008 and the Intelligent Energy Europe programme was presented, as well as a number of best practice examples from the EI-Education Guidebook.
Lessons learnt Another type of cooperation that would have added value to the project was the exchange of project information and presentation between the partner countries at the courses. But it would cost a lot of travel. The platform would have gained by involving an e- learning consultant. We had stakeholder participation through the workshops held in advance of the planning of the EI-Education courses. This added important information to the target groups of the courses and their interests and needs.
Konclusions Conclusion no.1 It s possible through education and courses to reach a large number of social housing organisations public and private. The general impression was that they were very interested in information and in learning about innovative projects and technologies, and how to practice energy intelligent retrofitting. It s important to continue and extend the courses offered to social housing organisations in energy intelligent retrofitting. Conclusion no.2 The curiosity among social housing organisations on experiencing what they do in other European countries, has contributed positively to the communication in the project. Further more it has been of importance to involve respected energy experts to contribute to the courses. Conclusion no.3 It s important to focus on how the ownership is to the education courses and how the engagement is in the implementation and follow up. The continuation of the courses is dependent on the feeling of ownership. We had expected the housing associations to be more engaged, but it showed that the possibility of selling the courses was of greater importance for the ownership than being the organisation for the housing organisations. However through the network established through the project, the housing associations will contribute to the continuation.
Follow up - Network and new projects The network that came out of the project has resulted in 4 new EU-proposals Network of at least 48 European organisations 2 new Danish projects 2 international lectures 3 national lectures
New project:
Best practice eksempler the 70ties Hoheloogstrasse, D and Lundebjerg Ballerup, DK Description and dialogue Hoheloog Str /15 The house is a passive house The balconies could be in a more appropriate dialogue with the house Lundebjerg - 80/46 No problems in changing such a house to passive house standard. The brick facades are maintained as a cultural element
Thank you for your attention! Comments and questions are welcome!
