1 THE WELL BUILDING STANDARD v1 (SEPTEMBER 2015 UPDATE) FEATURE REFERENCE TABLE This document summarizes the September 2015 updates to The WELL Building Standard v1 for each feature. Each change is classified as a clarification/simplification, an organizational change, or an addition. Feature Summary of Updates Change Type Feature 1: Air Quality Standards Updated Part 2 to be applicable to Core and Shell Addition (Core and Shell projects only) Feature 1: Air Quality Removed Part 2e requirements for Nitrogen Dioxide Standards based on feedback from peer reviewers and field testing. Updated Part 2 to be applicable to Core and Shell Removed the previous Part 3b requirements related to storage of absorptive materials in original packaging. Moved Part 4 into Feature 24 - Combustion Minimization; previous Part 5 is now Part 4. Removed previous Part 5d requirements for vacuum cleaners. Updated requirements such that a cleaning plan must be created that meets the requirements of Parts 1a, 1b, 1c, and 1d, rather than the requirements specified in Appendix Table A4. Added Part 1d to clarify that the cleaning plan must include a list of approved seals for cleaning products. Clarified that Part 1 is applicable to all plants in the project (not just outdoor plants). Removed specific date listed in Part 2 and clarified that the requirements related to lead must be met if the building was constructed prior to the institution of any local laws banning or restricting lead paint. Clarified that Part 3 requirements related to asbestos are applicable if the building was constructed prior to the institution of any local laws banning or restricting asbestos. Clarified that Part 4 requirements related to PCBs are applicable to any buildings constructed or renovated between 1950 and the institution of any local laws banning or restricting PCBs. Added Part 5 - Mercury Limitation to address reduction and elimination of mercury containing equipment and devices (including thermometers, lamps, and other equipment). Updated applicability such that this feature is no longer applicable to New and Existing Interiors Changed Part 1 name from Bulk Water Exterior to Exterior Liquid Water. Changed former Part 4 (now Part 3) to require a narrative describing condensation management strategies rather than requiring specific design elements. Corrected square foot to square meter conversions in the requirements. Added Part 1b requiring a detailed action plan for remediation of issues. Changed Part 1 to be applicable to Core and Shell Updated Part 1 applicability. This Part used to be applicable to all areas containing copiers or printers more than 1 m tall; it now applies to all printers and copiers except those meeting low-emissions criteria of Ecologo CCD 035, Blue Angel RAL-UZ 171, or Green Star. Removed previous Part 1b requiring separation of rooms. Previous Part 1c is now Part 1b. Clarified that Part 1 requires at least one monitoring device per floor. Removed Part 3c requiring the real-time monitoring devices to measure sound. Changed Part 2a to allow the outdoor air data monitoring station to be located within 1 mile of the building rather than 0.5 miles. Pulled the previous Part 1a into the main text of the Part. This does not change the requirements but reorders the lettering. Changed previous Part 1b (now Part 1a) to reference local codes and standards rather than ASHRAE Updated Part 1 to be applicable to Core and Shell buildings.

In Part 1c, changed the third Party verifier from independent third Party accredited by the Health Product Declaration (HPD) Collaborative to a qualified Ph.D. toxicologist or Certified Industrial Hygienist. Reduced number of surfaces required to adhere to the feature requirements. Combined previous Parts 1a and 1b into the current Part 1a. Added new Part 1b requiring UV cleaning devices to be used on high-touch surfaces. This requirement used to be Part 1e in Feature 29 (Cleaning Equipment). Combined previous Parts 1a and 1b into Part 1a and clarified the language. Moved previous Part 2c to be new Part 1c. In Part 2c (previous Part 2d), removed requirement that the sealant must be waterproof. Moved Part 1e to Feature 27 (Antimicrobial Activity for Surfaces). In Part 1c, clarified that hands-free mops are those that do not have to be wrung by hand. Updated all Part requirements to apply to all water in the project except that not designated for human contact. Updated Part 1 to be applicable to all water meant for human consumption. Updated Part 1 to be applicable to all water meant for human consumption. Updated all Parts to be applicable to all water meant for human consumption. Updated all Parts to be applicable to New and Existing Interior spaces as an Optimization. Moved previous Part 2d into Part 1a. Changed previous Part 1a to Part 1b. For Part 1, clarified that the requirements must be met universally; not just at major building entrances. For former Part 1a (now Part 1b), removed requirement of having at least one wayfinding signage per building entrance. Updated Part 2 to be applicable to projects of 2 to 4 floors. Updated Part 2b to indicate that the staircases must be visible from the main entrance to the project or located visually before elevators present upon entering the main entrance. Clarified that Part 2c requirements must be met as measured between handrails. Clarified that Part 3 is only applicable to employee furnishings. In Part 3, changed adjustability requirements to be either HFES 100 or BIFMA G1 rather than specifying the adjustability range.
