This project is to be constructed in accordance with the Virginia Department of Transportation Work Area Protection Manual, August 20 and latest revisions. The Contractor shall be thoroughly familiar with the plans and the existing structures, including the verification of all the existing dimensions before proceeding with the repairs. Dimensions of existing structures were taken from original "As-Built" drawings. Existing reinforcing steel shown in section is for Contractor's reference only and may not be based on As-Builts. Original bridge plans are available for review at the ichmond DPW. Discrepancies between field conditions and these plans shall be brought to the attention of the Engineer before proceeding with affected work. The contractor shall not remove any more material than can be replaced and cured to support traffic in time to reopen lanes to traffic without delay. The Contractor shall submit procedure of reconstruction and joint replacement to relay understanding of rapid repair techniques required and contingencies that will be in place to ensure that roadway will be reopened. If Contractor removes more material than can be properly repaired in the closure time, the Contractor shall temporarily repair the area in time to reopen lane. Temporary repair is subject to Engineer's approval and placement and removal of the temporary repair shall be incidental to the repair. All work shall be from above deck. At no time shall Contractor enter ailroad property or break the outer plane of the bridge rail with work activities or equipment. Orientation and labeling of spans and substructure units follows that of the original As-Built plans. 3 EXPANSION JOINT ECONSTUCTION (HES) NOTES: Expansion Joint econstruction (HES) shall be in accordance with Section 42 of the Specifications.
