Anquamine 721 curing agent is specifically designed for cost effective concrete floor coatings at up to 300 micron applied film tickness. Anquamine 721 curing agent easily emulsifies standard liquid epoxy resins; te use of emulsifiable resins is not required. 2 SUPPLEMENTARY DATA ANQUAMINE 721 CURING AGENT CHARACTERISTICS AND APPLICATION Anquamine 721 curing agent as been designed specifically for concrete primer and concrete paint application ( μm). Systems based on Anquamine 721 curing agent provide superior adesion particularly on damp concrete. It is most cost effective to provide epoxy concrete protection wit regards to adesion, abrasion resistance, surface appearance and cleanability. FIRST CHOICE FOR A CONCRETE PRIMER ADHESION Te principal function of a concrete primer is to adere to te substrate offering protection and a sound surface wic can readily be coated wit furter coatings or flooring systems if required. Anquamine 721 curing agent provides excellent adesion to all mineral substrates suc as concrete, anydrite, ceramic and old epoxy coatings. In addition to tis Anquamine 721 curing agent would be te best coice for a system to provide adesion on to damp concrete. Te adesion data clearly demonstrates tat compared to traditional solvent free and solvent borne primer systems te adesion to damp concrete is superior wit te mode of wit Anquamine 721 being coesive, indicating tat te adesion to te concrete is greater tan te strengt of te concrete itself. Te following figure sows te pull-off adesion testing of Anquamine 721 curing agent compared to a standard cycloalipatic system wen applied to damp concrete. OVERCOATABILITY Along wit adesion to te substrate one of te key requirements for a primer system is to provide a surface wic can readily be overcoated wit a furter protective or aestetic topcoat. Anquamine 721 curing agent exibits excellent recoatability, wit te surface presented offering te ability to recoat immediately or after several monts wit epoxy, polyuretane or oter coating tecnologies. Te intercoat adesion data clearly demonstrates tat tere is no intercoat adesion wen overcoating te Anquamine 721 primer wit a furter coating of Anquamine 721system. Curing Agent Tecnology Anquamine 721 Solvent-free Cycloalipatic Solventborne Polyamide A primer system based on Anquamine 721 curing agent will be touc dry after 3-5 ours, depending upon te resin base used and can be overcoated wit te following topcoat or self-levelling flooring system. Also as te system is not susceptible to te formation of carbamation under any circumstances te intercoat adesion is not adversely affected due to applications at low temperature or ig umidity. Figure 1 represents te viscosity dilution profiles of Anquamine 721 curing agent to 30% solids. Te system offers te benefit of a system wic sows good viscosity on dilution wit retention of viscosity at low solids for cost effective concrete primer and paint applications. Tis property is ideal to formulate and apply ig body paint at low solids. In order to obtain te optimum emulsion wit an unmodified liquid epoxy it is recommended to ave a minimum solids content of 40% solids before mixing wit te epoxy. Wen using witin a coating formulation or wit pre-emulsified liquid resins a lower solid content is applicable. After minutes a sarp increase in viscosity represents a visible end of pot-life. FIGURE 2: VISCOSITY PROFILE AND 60 GLOSS OF ANQUAMINE 721 CURING AGENT WITH LIQUID EPOXY RESIN FAST AND EASY-TO-USE PAINT FORMULATIONS PROPERTY DEVELOPMENT Figure 3 sows te ardness development and Beck Koller, Tin Film Set Times of Anquamine 721 matt grey paint formulation cured wit a diluent modified Bispenol A diglycidyl eter epoxy resin. Anquamine 721 paint formulations yield coatings wit an ultimate ardness of approximately 190 as measured by Persoz pendulum ardness and a pencil ardness of 4-6H. Te very ig pencil ardness indicates tat coatings formulated wit Anquamine 721 will offer very good scratc resistance and give a ig level of durability. It is recommended to use Anquamine 721 at advised stoiciometry of 150PHR (EEW=190). Anquamine 721 can be used at 10-15% above te recommended loading to accelerate ardness development and increase ultimate ardness by 25% witout negatively impacting oter properties. Te coating formulation as a walk-on-time of approximately 4-6 ours and can be overcoated at tis time allowing for two coat application in a day. 4 PIGMENT ACCEPTANCE Anquamine 721 curing agent is te ideal medium for formulating a paint system. Te pigment acceptance of Anquamine 721 is excellent and te majority of bot inorganic and organic pigment powders are readily dispersed to give ig quality pigment dispersions. Tis is a very important property wen formulating stable, ig gloss coatings. Good compatibility as been found wit a number of universal tinting systems commonly used in waterborne acrylic systems and commercial pigment pastes. Tis compatibility allows for a wide colour pallet making systems based on Anquamine 721 very versatile and able to offer a igly decorative solution to concrete protection. A master formulation based on Anquamine 721 be used wit standard tinting systems to give coatings of various colours for different applications. In addition to te ig pigment acceptance and ease of grinding te system is also ideal for using as te formulated side of paint due to ease of andling and cleaning. Unlike a solvent free or solventborne system te vessel used to make te paint formulation can easily be cleaned wit water and detergent wit no need for te use of solvents. FIGURE 4: COLOUR STABILITY THROUGH POT-LIFE OF ANQUAMINE 721 GREY PAINT FORMULATIONCURING AGENT FOLLOWING AGBB TESTING SCHEME Pigmented formulations based on Anquamine 721 also sow very good colour stability troug pot-life witout te requirement for special formulation tecniques to stabilize colour. Figure 4 demonstrates te colour development troug pot-life of te grey matt coating formulation compared to a standard waterborne coating witout pigment stabilising additives Increasingly stringent regulations will limit emissions from flooring systems after coating ave been applied. Coating systems containing non-reactive components, suc as plasticizers, ave sown ig emission levels above proposed limits. Concrete paints and concrete primers based on Anquamine 721 are fully reactive, are plasticiser-free and terefore offer a compliant system. Due to te fact tat coatings are fully reactive tere are fewer concerns of flame spread and smoke generation in te case of fire wic as positive influence on ealt and safety and ultimately lower insurance costs. COST-IN-USE COMPARISON WATERBORNE CONCRETE PAINT Systems based on Anquamine 721 curing agent provide a combination of optimum performance and cost effectiveness to offer te ideal systems for concrete protection. Te application of a pigmented two coat system based on Anquamine 721 curing agent and applied at 200μ DFT exibits a good combination of durability and cemical protection. Tis system offers a cost advantage over solvent free tecnology tat cannot be applied at tis low tickness due to viscosity constraints. Te additional film tickness of te solvent free system can be viewed as being over engineered and does not provide te performance benefits to justify te additional cost. Waterborne concrete paint (200μm) as proven performance capabilities and a long track record in a number of industrial applications. Wit tis cost-in-use benefit, epoxy protection is now affordable for car sow rooms or ligt traffic storage areas. As per Figure 5 up to a 30% cost saving can be acieved wen compared to solvent free tecnology. FIGURE 5: COST COMPARISON OF ANQUAMINE 721 COATING SYSTEM AND SOLVENT FREE COATING PLASTICISER FREE COATINGS Anquamine 721 coatings are low odour and can be formulated free of volatile organic compounds (VOC) offering VOC compliant systems. Te application of coatings in confined spaces limits te use of solvents and oter volatiles, due to odour and regulatory constraints. Tis is equally important for sensitive application areas suc as scools, offices or ospitals wic can stay occupied during painting. 5 In addition to raw material cost savings, Anquamine 721 coatings provide furter efficiency advantages. Coatings based on Anquamine 721 are easier and quicker to apply wen compared to solvent free systems. Tere is no roller pick up or drag so tat greater coverage rates are acieved at tat save time and labour cost. FIRST CHOICE FOR CONCRETE PROTECTION Coatings formulated wit Anquamine 721 curing agent ave ideal properties for concrete primers and coatings. Te systems offer fast property development for fast completion of jobs and are easy to use and formulate. Te coatings formulations offer excellent protection of concrete substrates from ligt to medium traffic and also ave good cemical resistance for resistance to cemical spills. ABRASION RESISTANCE Paint formulations wit Anquamine 721 offer excellent scratc resistance wit te pencil ardness of standard formulations sowing ardness up to 6H. Te abrasion resistance of te coating system also indicates tat te system will offer igly durable and long lasting protection to te substrate wit te Taber Abrasion (C17) Wear Index for te grey matt coating being 300mg/1000 cycles. CHEMICAL RESISTANCE Coatings formulated wit Anquamine 721 offer excellent resistance to a variety of cemicals. Te resistance to a few commonly used cemicals is listed below wic demonstrates tat for accidental spills and leaks Anquamine 721 based coatings will give very good protection of te concrete and can be cleaned witout damage. Te coating formulation based on Anquamine 721 was evaluated for cemical resistance using a spot test metod. Approximately 0.1ml of reagent was applied onto te coating substrate and covered to prevent evaporation. Te coating surface was ten observed after 1 our and 24 ours for surface degradation and given a grade from 0 to 5 wit 5 indicating no damage and 0 indicating complete destruction. FIGURE 6: CHEMICAL RESISTANCE OF ANQUAMINE 721 GREY COATING FORMULATION GUIDELINES DISPERSANTS / DEFOAMERS / WETTING Defoamers suc as Surfynol DF62 are very suitable for use in coating formulations to give optimum air release and surface properties. ZetaSperse 1600 can be used to effectively aid in wetting out pigments and increasing flow and levelling properties to give a system wic yields good surface and flow properties RHEOLOGY MODIFIERS Te Reology of formulations wit Anquamine 721 can be effectively controlled wit te use of Tixotropic agents suc as polyuretane tickeners and Bentonite clays. Tafigel PUR-55 (Münzing-Cemie) as sown good Tixotropic properties in paint formulations wit Anquamine 721, allowing for good application viscosity and anti-sag performance. 6 RECOMMENDED EPOXY RESINS Anquamine 721 exibits good compatibility wit standard liquid epoxy resins based on Bispenol A or F. Reactive diluent modified epoxy resin will offer improved andling and formulating latitude witin coating formulations. As wit all systems, te inclusion of diluents will retard te ardness development and ultimate ardness of coated films. Resins modified wit reactive diluents, suc as Epodil 748 or exanediol diglycidyl eter, exibit very good compatibility and produce films of ig clarity and gloss. A modification level of approximately 10% to yield a resin viscosity of approx. 2,000mPa.s is ideal to give a good balance of andling and property development. ANQUAMINE 721 GREY MATT PRIMER Tis formulation is ideally suited as a primer or topcoat for concrete floor coatings at micron applied film tickness.
