4 1 Introduction This classification report defines the classification assigned to the Alsecco (UK) Ltd, Basic FS Insulated Render System with 80mm EPS insulation in accordance with the procedures given in DG 501- BR 135: Annex B Fire performance criteria and classification method for BS :2005. This classification report should be read in conjunction with BRE test reports dated 7 November 2005, and dated 29 th June Details of classified product 2.1 General The product is described as an external insulation system. 2.2 Description of the Alsecco Basic FS system General Description of product The Alsecco Basic FS Insulated Render system comprises of three elements: the system substrate, a 6mm cement particle board on lightweight steel frame, breather membrane, a 15mm cavity and a second sheet of 10mm thick cement particle board, the insulation, and the external finish Substrate The substrate comprised of a Banro light gauge steel frame which was installed between the concrete floor lintels onto the face of the BRE test facility (Drawing reference BRE Test 013). The framework consisted of 150mm wide, 1.2 gauge steel sections secured to the lintels using tapcon fixings at 600mm centres between the vertical steel studs which were also set at 600mm centres. The vertical studs were fixed to the tracks using 25mm wafer head screws in to the rear of the studs. Sheets of 6mm thick New Pyrok cement particle board (nominally 1200mm x 2400mm) were then fixed to the light gauge steel frame using twin winged 4.8 x 38mm self drilling screws fixed at 300mm centres around the perimeters and 600mm along the studs. 50mm thick slabs of Rockwool FlexiSlab were fitted into the steel channel behind the 6mm cement particle board. 5 A breather membrane sheet (Tyvek Housewrap) was fixed to the cement particle board and Alsecco Tophat drainage profiles were fixed horizontally at 600mm centres using Alescco FSHL M4x23 screws (Drawing Reference BRE Test 012 & 013). A 10mm thick cement particle board was then fixed to the top hat sections using Alescco FSHL M4x23 screws. This created a 15mm cavity between the two particle cement boards. Intumescent cavity fire barriers (Sealmaster cavity fire seals Product code CFS (40mm x 10mm)) were fitted at every floor slab level Insulated render system The Alsecco Basic FS Insulated Render System consisted of an 80mm thick expanded polystyrene (Alsecco PS 15 SE) insulation layer (density 15kg/m 3 ) which was fixed to the 10mm thick cement particle board using 100% coverage of Thermastick MP adhesive and Alsecco SBH-T100 mechanical fixings (Alsecco drawing reference BRE Test 0011). Horizontal fire barriers were fitted at every floor level and comprised of 500mm wide x 80mm thick slab of high density mineral wool applied in a continuous strip. The fire barriers were applied using a 100% coverage of Thermastick MP adhesive and Alsecco SBH-T100 mechanical fixings at a maximum of 400mm centres. The area of the barrier was double meshed with an overlap of 200mm above and below the barrier. The base coat comprised Armatop MP (4-5 mm) and reinforcing mesh 32. Some molten material and flaming droplets were observed flowing from a crack in the render system above the hearth opening during the test. 4 Classification and field of application 4.1 Reference of classification This classification has been carried out in accordance with DG501- BR 135:Annex B Fire performance criteria and classification method for BS : Field of application This classification is valid only for the product as installed and detailed in Section 2 of this classification report. 7 5 Limitations This classification document does not represent type approval or certification of the product. The specification and interpretation of fire test methods are the subject of ongoing development and refinement. Changes in associated legislation may also occur. For these reasons, it is recommended that the relevance of test and classification reports over five years old should be considered by the user. The laboratory that issued the report will be able to offer, on behalf of the legal owner, a review of the procedures adopted for a particular test or classification to ensure that they are consistent with current practices, and if required may endorse the report.
