BACKGROUND DATE OF CONSTRUCTION: C ZONED HISTORIC PRESERVATION: 1999 NATIONAL REGISTER LISTING: BRADY HEIGHTS HISTORIC DISTRICT: 1980 CONTRIBUTING STRUCTURE: YES PREVIOUS ACTIONS: OCTOBER 30, 2008 STAFF APPROVAL Repair/rebuilding front porch elements to match original elements in dimensions, scale, and detailing. This includes front porch columns, brick piers, roof line and exposed rafter tails. Porch ceiling will be beaded board to match original. Eaves/soffits will be beaded board with cove moulding detailing. OCTOBER 3, 2013 STAFF APPROVAL 1. Repair existing concrete block retaining wall north at street level. 2. Replace broken, missing, damaged shake siding and cedar shingles where needed and lap siding with materials to match original in size, shape, pattern, texture and directional orientation of the original historic elements. 3. Replace missing bricks in stem wall as needed around perimeter of house and/or repoint bricks. 4. Repair/replace wood windows where visible from street with new wood to match the original historic windows in sash design, size, shape, muntin pattern, location, glazing area and tint. 5. Paint entire structure, excluding brick stem wall. OCTOBER 22, 2013 STAFF APPROVAL Replace damaged sidewalk near south side of house, add brick edging to the flower bed between the porch and sidewalk and the flower bed on the street side of sidewalk, along front of house. Remove non-original wood columns and reconstruct columns based on physical and pictorial evidence provided The applicant requests to reconstruct box porch columns with matching trim based on the surviving columns on the porch and missing pieces founds inside the house after it was purchased by the applicant. The columns are box with a decorative head connecting the columns at the top. On the corner, three columns will be grouped together, and two box columns grouped on a standalone brick pier. The columns are 5 ft. 6 in. in height. i. References: Unified Guidelines for Residential Structures SECTION A GUIDELINES FOR REHABLITATION TO EXISTING STRUCTURES A.6 Porches A.6.1 Retain and preserve the original historic porch and its character-defining architectural features through repair. A.6.2 Do not remove character-defining architectural features of your porch including, but not limited to, ceiling, floor, piers, columns, railings, handrails, steps, bulkheads, skirt/stem wall, and decorative details such as crown molding, trim, eave brackets, and exposed rafter tails. A.6.3 If replacement of deteriorated porch elements is necessary, use materials that maintain the character of the structure and the size, shape, pattern, texture, dimensions, and directional orientation of the original historic features. A.6.4 To return the home to its original historic appearance, use physical or pictorial evidence. If no evidence exists, select porch features which are consistent with the architectural style of your home. Return enclosed porches to original historic open design (which can be staff approved). A.6.5 If adding a railing or other porch elements where none exists, select porch elements (columns, railing design, trim, etc.) which are consistent with the architectural style of your home.
