You have been identified as a potential Interested and Affected Party (I&AP). Motuoane Energy (Pty) Ltd has applied for an exploration right that will enable them to ascertain if economically viable hydrocarbons and associated gas deposits exist within the area applied for, and mentioned below. If approved, exploration will be undertaken in accordance with the exploration work programme as submitted to the Petroleum Agency of South Africa (PASA). The proposed exploration area is located within the Matjhabeng, Masilonyana and Moqhaka Local Municipalities, Free State Province over an area approximately hectares, extending north from approximately Theunissen, north towards Kroonstad, east of Virginia and Henneman. The approximate center point of the site is located at: 28 5'1.67"S; 27 8'0.66"E in Ventersburg. This notice is in accordance with Chapter 6 of GNR 982 of the NEMA, which requires that the Applicant notify in writing and consult with I&APs. 3 ENVIRONMENTAL NOTIFICATION: EXPLORATION RIGHT AND ENVIRONMENTAL AUTHORISATION APPLICATION Notice is given in terms of Section 79 of the Mineral and Petroleum Resources Development Act (Act 28 of 2002) (MPRDA) and Chapter 6 of the Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) Regulations, 2014 (GNR 982) promulgated under the National Environmental Management Act (Act 107 of 1998) (NEMA), of an application for an Exploration Right and Environmental Authorisation to explore for hydrocarbons and associated gas near Henneman in the Free State Province, South Africa. The application involves an Exploration Right application in terms of Section 28 of GNR 527 of the MPRDA and an Environmental Authorisation application following an EIA process as per Chapter 4 of GNR 982 of the NEMA. Nature of Activity: Motuoane Energy (Pty) Ltd has applied for an Environmental Authoristaion and Exploration Right that will enable them to ascertain if economically viable hydrocarbon deposits exist within the area being applied for, and mentioned below. If approved, exploration will be undertaken in accordance with the exploration work programme as submitted to the Petroleum Agency South Africa (PASA). The exploration techniques to be employed during the operations include interalia geological mapping, geochemical soil sampling, water sampling and drilling for geological core samples. No hydraulic fracturing ( Fracking ) is to take place during this exploration activity. A number of NEMA Listing Notice (GNR 983 / GNR 984 / GNR 985) activities may be triggered by this application which will be highlighted in detail in the subsequent reports. 4 OMGEWINGSKENNISGEWING AANSOEK VIR EKSPLORASIE REG EN OMGEWINGSMAGTIGING Kennisgewing geskied hiermee in terme van Artikel 79 van die Minerale en Petroleum Hulpbronne Ontwikkelings Wet (Wet 28 van 2002) (MPRDA) en Hoofstuk 6 van die Omgewingsimpak Evaluering (EIA) Regulasies, 2014 (GNR 982) uitgevaardig kragtens die Wet op Nasionale Omgewingsbestuur (Wet 107 van 1998) (NEMA), soos gewysig, van n aansoek vir n Eksplorasie Reg asook 'n Omgewingsmagtiging vir die eksplorasie van koolwaterstowwe en gepaardgaande gas naby Henneman in die Vrystaat Provinsie, Suid Afrika. Hierdie aansoek behels die aansoek vir n Eksplorasie Reg in terme van Artikel 28 van GNR 527 van die MPRDA en n Omgewingsmagtiging aansoek met behulp van n EIA proses soos per Hoofstuk 4 van GNR 982 van die NEMA. Aard van die aktiwiteit: Motuoane Energy (Edms) Bpk het aansoek gedoen vir n Omgewingsmagtiging en Eksplorasie Reg wat hulle in staat sal stel om te bepaal of lewensvatbare koolwaterstof bronne bestaan in die aansoek-gebied, soos hieronder beskryf. Indien hierdie aansoek goedgekeur word, sal die ondersoek geskied in terme van die eksplorasie werkprogram soos ingedien by die Petroleum Agentskap van Suid-Afrika (PASA). Die eksplorasie tegnieke wat toegepas sal word tydens die proses sluit onder andere geologiese kartering, insameling van geochemiese grond monsters, insameling van water monsters en die boor vir geologiese kern monsters in. Geen hidroliese breking ( hydraulic fracturing ) sal plaasvind gedurende hierdie eksplorasie-aktiwiteite nie. Daar word verwag dat n aantal NEMA-gelyste aktiwiteite (GNR 983 / GNR 984 / GNR 985) deur hierdi aansoek geraak sal word. Hierdie aktiwiteite sal uitgelig en in diepte bespreek word in die opvolg verslae wat saamgestel sal word gedurende die aansoek proses. Projek Ligging: Die voorgestelde eksplorasie gebied is geleë in die Matjhabeng-, Masilonyana- en Moqhaka Plaaslike Munisipaliteite, Vrystaat Provinsie, en strek oor n gebied van ongeveer hektaar (ha). Die projek area strek in n noordelik rigting vanaf ongeveer Theunissen, noord-oos na Kroonstad, oos van Virginia en Henneman. Die sentrale punt van die projek is ongeveer geleë op: 28 5'1.67"S; 27 8'0.66"O in Ventersburg.
