2 Climateneutralprinting 2 Why KBA and ClimatePartner? Ecological print and sustainable development were topics on the agenda at KBA long before intensification of the current climate debate. Consideration for the ecological aspects has been guiding our corporate activities and press engineering for at least 15 years. Since the mid-1990s, KBA has been the technology pioneer in waterless offset for both sheetfed and newspaper presses. Already at drupa 2000, and thus long before all others, our Rapida sheetfed offset presses were the first on the market to be awarded the eco-certificate Emission tested by the health and safety inspectors responsible for the German print and paper industries, a label recognised and taken over by comparable authorities in other European countries. Flanking technical and process developments to further enhance the energy efficiency of our presses, such as the energy-saving dryer system KBA VariDry BLUE, partnerships with other companies and organisations pursuing similar goals have always played an important role at KBA. One typical example is the close and long-standing cooperation with the consultants from ClimatePartner in the field of climate-neutral printing. The new online platform Footprint Manager is set to raise this cooperation to a new level. With Footprint Manager, interested print companies can now themselves calculate the emissions attributable to their production, can offer customers the increasingly requested option of climate-neutral print at fair and manageable extra cost, and acting hand in hand with the print buyer can compensate the unavoidable CO 2 emissions by supporting climate protection projects.
