Previously he was a senior engineer at the China Institute of Water Resources and Hydropower Research, Beijing, having worked in water resources management for more than 10 years. Recently, he published Water Resources Management in the People s Republic of China in

4 English in In addition he has published more than 60 papers and books in the fields of water resources management, water pricing, water rights, and climate change. Now he researches groundwater management in China and provides support to the Ministry of Water Resources of China on water resources management reform. Dr. Daniel CONNELL works in the Crawford School of Economics and Government at The Australian National University, Australia. He published Water Politics in the Murray-Darling Basin in 2007 and recently co-edited with Quentin Grafton Basin Futures: Water reform in the Murray-Darling Basin in He researches water-management institution and their response to climate variability in the federal political systems of Australia, South Africa, the United States, Europe, India and China. Mr. Jason ALEXANDRA is the senior Executive at the Murray Darling Basin Authority responsible for Basin-scale natural resource management (NRM) programs, including Sustainable Rivers Audit (SRA), water quality, water trade, climate change, salinity, native fish and research partnerships. He published Aboriginal Communities and Mixed Agricultural Business-Opportunities and future need in 2007and Public-private partnerships for regional reforestation and Case Studies of Regional and Catchment Integrated Assessments in Prior to joining the former Murray Darling Basin Commission in 2008, he was the Executive Director of the Earthwatch Institute, an international NGO delivering environmental research and sustainability education in over 40 countries. Dr. Ellen Hanak is senior policy fellow at the Public Policy Institute of California (PPIC). Her career has focused on the economics of natural resource management and agricultural development. Recently, she published California s Water Market: Lessons from the Field, California Climate Change: Planning for a Better Future, and Managing California s Water: From Conflict to Reconciliation in At PPIC, she has launched a research program on water policy and has published reports and articles on water marketing, water and land use planning, water conservation, and management of the Sacramento-San Joaquin Delta. Other areas of expertise include infrastructure finance and climate change. Before joining PPIC in 2001, she held positions with the French agricultural research system, the President s Council of Economic Advisers, and the World Bank. She holds a Ph.D. in economics from the University of Maryland.
