Site investigations are typically designed to satisfy both the environmental and geotechnical requirements of the client, thereby maximising information while reducing cost. We can also advise on the installation of suitable sampling ports and devise your sampling strategy. Water system monitoring RSK can devise and carry out a water system monitoring schedule based on individual customers requirements and the type of water system assets that they have at their site(s). Legionella risk assessment To carry out a suitable and sufficient legionella risk assessment, RSK will first establish the parameters of each system. In addition, the current monitoring and treatment regimes will be investigated and analysed to verify their efficacy and/or compliance with legislation or best practice. System mapping RSK can survey a building or installation to map out system routes, and verify system capacities, asset type and locations to aid future management of the water system and its potential risks. 9 Building envelope consultancy Heat and cooling RSK can provide thermal performance analysis of new and existing assemblies, and give advice on insulation types and life cycle, U-value calculations, finite element analysis of junction details and guidance on energy saving for upgrading of assemblies. Air RSK has expertise in the flow of air through parts of and whole buildings. We can provide advice on air permeability; provide site inspections during construction to ensure acceptable air barrier installation; confirm compliance with local building regulations; and use computer modelling to establish infiltration rates and energy usage. 10 PROJECT EXPERIENCE Orascom Construction Industries, Saraya Development infrastructure works RSK Environment llc has seconded an environmental consultant to provide full-time on-site environmental management support to Orascom Construction Industries during infrastructure works for the Saraya Development, Abu Dhabi Corniche. RSK is working with the Orascom health, safety and environment team to support construction works on-site. The on-site environmental management involves ensuring contractor compliance with the project construction environmental management plan; daily site inspections of the working areas and implementation of mitigation measures where required; implementation of the environmental monitoring programme; and provision of environmental training in the form of an environmental site induction and toolbox talks on key issues to contractor and subcontractor supervisors and crews. RSK is also responsible for monthly reporting of environmental management progress to Orascom Construction Industries. Shell Markets (Middle East) Ltd, Arabian Gulf terminal decommissioning, Dubai RSK operates Shell s Global Environmental Services Strategy within the UAE. The contract is to provide environmental investigation, assessment and remediation services during the decommissioning of the Arabian Gulf terminal at Port Rashid and the associated pipelines located around the berthing areas within the port and run between the Arabian Gulf terminal and Dubai International Airport. DUBAL, sustainability assessment and report, Dubai RSK was commissioned to undertake the first sustainability assessment of DUBAL s operations in Dubai. The assessment was to review DUBAL s procedures with regard to waste production and disposal, emissions output and the use of resources such as water and electricity, and to assess the company s role within the local community. RSK representatives presented an outline of the assessment to DUBAL s sustainability team to ensure that the client consultant relationship could develop. The assessment was undertaken in accordance with the Global Reporting Initiative s sustainability reporting guidelines and AA1000, the global standard for ensuring ethical behaviour in business. Shell (DUSUP) LNG regasification project, Dubai Shell was approached by the Dubai Supply Authority (DUSUP) to develop the Dubai liquefied natural gas (LNG) regasification project, to assist with the forthcoming predicted shortfall in natural gas provision for the residents of Dubai. The project encompasses the use of a floating storage and regasification unit moored in Jebel Ali Port, along with the associated pipeline infrastructure. RSK was employed by Shell to assess the effects of the project and produce an environmental, social and health impact assessment (ESHIA) report. The study addressed the environmental impacts resulting from the construction and operation of the facility, and assessed the impact on the social system in the area and any associated effects on the health of workers or the local population. The ESHIA was compiled in accordance with national and local legislation. Throughout the ESHIA process, the relevant stakeholders were contacted and kept informed of proposals. EIA for Veba Oil Operations, Libya RSK completed an EIA for 3D seismic survey work in the Hofra and Facha concessions in Libya. This work consisted of a field survey supervised by RSK and supported by local Libyan experts and academics. Two areas were surveyed within the Sirte basin with a total area of approximately 700 km 2 over a period of four days. The work was carried out according to very stringent time scales to meet the client s survey programme requirements. Phase 1 and 2 environmental assessment and site investigation of Saharan drilling activities, Algeria RSK carried out environmental assessments (phase 1 and 2) of current and historical drilling activities in the Algerian Sahara for BHP Petroleum. To date, five onshore wells have been drilled and further drilling is planned. The RSK audit team reviewed drilling records and waste management procedures in the UK before undertaking site visits to current and historic wells. The site visits involved overflights, ground inspections, soil sampling and interviews with key personnel. Issues considered during the study included waste minimisation and disposal, storage of chemicals and oil, and the disposal of drilling muds and cuttings. A soil-sampling programme was undertaken to provide the necessary data for contaminant transport modelling. The sites looked at as part of the study included a recently abandoned drill site, a drill site abandoned four years previously and an operational drill site. The sampling focused primarily on waste mud pits and other drilling fluid discharge areas.

11 QAFCO 5 EIA report, Qatar QAFCO s proposed QAFCO 5 development entails building two additional trains of ammonia production, one unit for the production of granulated urea, and the expansion of the production of the intermediate product, urea formaldehyde, used in the granulation process. RSK was commissioned to compile an EIA report for the QAFCO 5 project that would assess the environmental impacts of all stages of the project life cycle. Together, QAFCO and RSK compiled a technical project description of QAFCO 5 to identify and, where possible, quantify the sources of potential environmental impacts that the project might have. Prospective new quarry, Oman Tarmac commissioned RSK to assess a prospective new quarry for use as an aggregate source for high-quality concrete production. The rock at the site was ultra-basic ophiolite. RSK identified the detailed geological composition and mineralogy of the main rock types, along with subsidiary veins, using X-ray diffraction and petrographic examination. Following the initial assessment, an evaluation of crushed rock aggregate was undertaken, including potential susceptibility to alkali aggregate reactivity and other possible deleterious reactions in concrete. Beniyas highway interchange, Dubai RSK was employed to undertake site inspections and investigations that led to an expert review of issues relating to a claim that structural concrete used in the flyover was defective yet incorporated into the permanent works. This resulted in a claim against the contractor. It was determined that an unsatisfactory concrete pour was the cause of the defect. Capability Statement Middle East 11
