Provided critical results for interim report of NNSA (PSAAP) grant $ 8,000,000 and DOE grants $ 738,679. Resulted in 3 top peer reviewed journals in a year and plenty conference presentations, drawing global attentions from colleagues in the US, France, Swaziland, China, Japan and South Korea. Developed the first nationwide DNS database, for statistical learning of turbulent bubbly flow, which automatically supported feature selection, prediction and classification with R, scikit-learn (in Python) and MATLAB. Explored the new generation of turbulent modelling based on LES/RANS combined with machine learning and big data. Quantified the uncertainty in multiphase flow modelling. Conducted physics model validation, numerical model verification with the DNS data.

2 p. 2 Research Assistant, National Key Laboratory of Ocean Energy Conservation Dalian University of Technology, Dalian, China Sep Apr Designed a novel double-diffusion solar energy reservation system, published a patent and provided solid foundations for a 150kw solar pond used for electricity generation in Qinghai province, China. Implemented the heat transfer simulation with ANSYS Fluent UDF (User Defined Functions) in C for the heat reservoir s design optimization. Modelled fluid & structure interaction (FSI) for fish swimming, experimented several open loop and close loop control strategy with 3D DNS fish swimming. Designed a new gas explosion resistant door and published a patent, using ANSYS Fluent AMR (adaptive mesh refinement) to model the quenching effect of combustion in the blast resistant door. Analyzed the particle cloud settling in density stratified flow with open-source software Gerris and OpenFOAM. Research Assistant, Turbomachinery and Fluid Engineering Laboratory Dalian University of Technology, Dalian, China Sep Apr Quantified the uncertainty of flow rate drop in nuclear main pump s accidental failure using ANSYS Fluent and Numeca. Produced reliable numerical results for the nuclear turbine simulation, supported by Chinese Program 973 grant with $2,609,972. Designed the simulation and experimental setups for one energy recoverable wind turbine generator, published a patent for enhancing the wind turbine power s efficiency by 20%. Developed a pseudo 3D algorithm in FORTRAN for full-scale gas turbine simulation where traditional finite volume CFD was not practical. Simulated the erosion effect of particles and heat transfer in smoke gas turbine with ANSYS Fluent. Published a patent for solid particle remover for boosting the endurance of multiphase flow turbine machinery. Research Assistant, Medical Image Processing Laboratory Harbin Institute of Technology, Harbin, China Mar May 2010 Created an image processing algorithm based on physical fluid models, for medical image registration and image fusion. Used support vector machine (SVM) and tree-based method for medical data classification, and high dimensional data reduction. Collaborated with local hospital for data collection and develop a user-friendly software interface with Matlab GUI. Data Analyst, Credit Business Department Industrial and Commercial Bank of China (ICBC), China May Aug Based on the historical data of different loans, made predictions for the future loan profit with artificial neural networks (ANN). Maintained local database with SQL and updated website with HTML.
