3 Control Systems Control Systems For improved efficiency and product quality The development of our unique electro-hydraulic servo systems for control of positioning, force, and pressure is based on more than 40 years experience within the area of closed-loop controls. Vishay Nobel installations are found in facilities including paper mills and sawmills, where our standard components together with customized solutions considerably improve our customers efficiency and production quality. EXAMPLES OF CONTROL SYSTEMS SOLUTIONS: ROS Our unique reel optimizing systems for controlling the nip force in reel-up machines Minimizes paper loss in reel changes and provides uniform nip force throughout the paper roll Set points are chosen via PC terminals Roll data such as nip force and density is stored in the PC system Built in force and displacement transducers makes it possible to accurately control the nip force and parallelism from down-folding of the primary arm via spool change to complete roll Provides full control and minimizes the risks of wrinkles and web braking RRS - RIDER ROLL SYSTEM A force and positioning system for winders and rewinders The system controls the rider roll position and speed in a way which ensures smooth and parallel touch down at the core Controls the nip force as a function of the roll diameter, which results in uniform tension and hardness throughout the paper roll and thereby minimizes the risk of wrinkles MICROPOS - DIGITAL POSITIONING SYSTEM For the saw mill industry Enables quick and accurate adjustments of light and heavy machine shafts Controls acceleration and speed while minimizing the mechanical strain on equipment Compactly built servo actuators with built-in displacement transducers and integrated servo valves provide highest possible accuracy and adaptability to reach required yields

4 Weighing Weighing For accurate industrial weighing Vishay Nobel s experience in weight measurement dates back to the mid 1940s. During the first half of the 1960s, Vishay Nobel developed weighing solutions for the processing industry and used this experience to develop our unique KIS load cell. Since that time, the KIS load cell has been a leading solution for industrial weighing applications. SOLUTION-LEVEL THINKING Vishay Nobel is particularly strong in the development of customized solutions to meet the needs of our customers. For example, crane weighing one of the industry s more complicated applications is an area in which our flexibility and solutions-oriented approach brings unique benefits. UNIQUE LOAD CELL DESIGN This unique design, with a cylindrical sleeve mounted at the load end, is immune to the effects of vibration, horizontal shock, and thermal expansion of the tank being weighed. KIS load cells thus provide high accuracy, repeatability, and correct measurements even in highly rugged environments. Because our load cells have a sanitary surface, they are the preferred solution for the pharmaceutical and food processing industries, where purity is a must. Our KIS load cell is easy to install in all applications, so low set-up costs and a minimum of mechanical reconstruction are typical for KIS applications. As for durability, it is not unusual for our KIS load cells to still be in service after a quarter century of use. BROAD RANGE OF PRODUCTS Vishay Nobel today offers the industry s broadest range of load cells and weighing instrumentation. SOPHISTICATED INSTRUMENTATION Our instruments are developed to communicate with a wide range of host systems from analog transmittance to communication via field buses and Ethernet. 5 Force Measurement Force Measurement For high accuracy in rough environments With more than 40 years of experience within force measurement and web tension, Vishay Nobel develops products especially designed to meet the demands of high accuracy in rugged industrial settings. Based on our expertise and experience developing solutions for use in extreme temperatures and environmental conditions, we focus on customer demands when providing both standard and customized solutions. Vishay Nobel solutions are designed to perform in rugged environments such as those of the steel industry, where extreme temperature variations are the norm. The offshore drilling industry is another area where our products are put to the test. Our customers report that Vishay Nobel installations on oil rig mooring chains are still working perfectly after 20 to 25 years service in a salt water environment. Extreme weights are also a Vishay Nobel specialty. We have developed several force transducers for capacities as high as 8 meganewtons (800 tons). TAILORED FOR YOUR NEEDS In the engineering department, our highly skilled technologists design force measuring blocks especially adapted to customer demands. Furthermore we can assist in the development of customized plans for mounting. Cable laying is just one of the areas in which Vishay Nobel s competence and experience in force measurement has been proved superior. Our systems for measurement of vessel movements due to swell when laying sub-sea fibre optic cables have played a significant role in problem-solving within this field. Another niche is the RFS3 our system for measurement of forces in rolling mills. The RFS3 is easily installed and provides increased efficiency, high reliability, and consistent product quality. WEB AND STRIP TENSION Vishay Nobel offers a number of alternative solutions for measurement of web tension within the paper industry. In the steel industry, our standardized and customized measuring blocks provide numerous alternative possibilities in measuring strip tension. Furthermore Vishay Nobel can provide solutions for lowforce web tension applications, such as those found in the plastics industry. INDUSTRY STANDARDS FOR PRESSURE For more than 20 years, Vishay Nobel has also been a specialist in supplying the oil and gas industry with pressure transmitters for rugged and hazardous environments built using oilfield-specific materials and process connections. These products have become the industry standard among well-service and drilling enterprises for high-temperature and high-pressure applications.
