Research of biogas in West Parana State University - UNIOESTE Prof. Dr. Samuel Nelson Melegari de Souza Research Group: Energy and Agricultural Sustainable GEAS, CNPq Samuel.Souza@unioeste.br

UNIOESTE West Paraná State University - Brazil Iguazu Falls West Paraná State - Brazil State of Paraná - Brazil

Agriculture Index in West Parana State Agriculture: Soy, Corn and Wheat Paraná has the highest productivity in Brazil Good Soil and Climate conditions; Animal farmers: Chicken and pig (swine) shelter Chicken Production Brazil: 50 Millions of heads; 12.9 Millions MTonnes; Brazil is the largest exporter of chicken meat; 4.4 Millions MTonnes Paraná has the major participation; 34.46% of the Slaughtering. The West of Paraná participate with 29% of the Paraná`s exportation of Chicken.

Agriculture Index in Paraná and West of Paraná. Swine Brazil : 2 Millions of heads; 3.7 Millions of Tonnes Paraná has the third swine production of Brazil (22.9% of slaughtering), and West of Paraná, represents 50% of that; Milk Production Paraná has the second milk production of Brazil and West of Paraná is the first in it. 5 billions of liters.

Disposal of waste In front what was exposed above, the results are a production of waste from animal farming and food industry processing Nowadays the farmers and some food processing plants are treating the waste in biodigesters.

The contribution of UNIOESTE to West Paraná Region. Research Group: Energy and Agricultural Sustainable GEAS Research Line: Biomass and Biofuels Postgraduate Course: Master in Energy Engineering in Agriculture.

The contribution of UNIOESTE to West Paraná Region. Biodigestion of waste from food and others. Avaliation of Engines for electricity generation with biogas. Upgrading of biogás. Researchers: Prof. Dr. Samuel Nelson Melegari de Souza - UNIOESTE Prof. Dr. Reinaldo Aparecido Bariccatti - UNIOESTE Prof. Dr. Armin Feiden - UNIOESTE Prof. Dr. Helton José Alves - UFPR

Filling PVC Biogas Water Column for reduction of CO 2 concentration in biogas. There is a countercurrent of Water and biogas Bottom Inlet biogas Top Inlet water (3 5 Bar)

Objective: Increase the LHV of biogas

Water scrubber for upgrading of (Hydrogen Sulphide) H 2 S and (Carbon Dioxide) CO 2 removal in biogas Developing of a low pressure, water scrubber prototype. It was used two water based solutions as filtering element: iron sulphate III in water solution at 4,0 g/l (or 0,01mol/l) and sodium carbonate in water solution at 10,0 g/ l (or mol/l). Water Solution Biogas

Water scrubber for upgrading of (Hydrogen Sulphide) H2S and (Carbon Dioxide) CO2 removal in biogas Recirculation of the solution saturated in 30 minutes. Sodium Carbonate. PH = 9 H 2 S - (HS - and S 2- ) Soluble in water. Iron sulphate (S 2- and S o ) S o - Fertilizer to Iron sulphate

Water scrubber for upgrading of (Hydrogen Sulphide) H 2 S and (Carbon Dioxide) CO 2 removal in biogas Results iron sulphate III in water solution : Upgrading around 30 % on CO 2 and 75 % on H 2 S ; sodium carbonate in a water solution : Upgrade around 55 % on CO 2 and 99 % on H 2 S. The upgrade process efficiency is highly time dependent and a good upgrade results, during the time, were achieved using sodium carbonate in a water solution.
