1 L SGC 3000 Model SGC30 Smart Gas Chromatograph 34-GC /94 Page 1 of 14 Speifiation and Model Seletion Guide Overview Honeywell s SGC 3000 Smart Gas Chromatograph (Figure 1) provides quik and reliable proess gas analysis, as part of the proess loop, for on-line ontrol of industrial proesses. It is designed for a wide variety of appliations in petroleum refining and proessing of petrohemials, hemials, and natural gas. The SGC 3000 measures proess gases H to C5, onverts onentration measurements into analog (4 to 0 ma d) or digital signals in the field, and transmits the signals to a reeiver. Model SGC30 an be handled like an ordinary transmitter. Parameters an be remotely set, adjusted, and self-diagnosed through the Smart Field Communiator (SFC) Model STS103. The SGC 3000 onsists of four major parts: The integral sample onditioner introdues the arrier and sample gases into the analyzer unit. It has a pipeline for venting gases after analysis and a bypass line for ontrolling the gas flow rate within the sample gas line. A needle valve ontrols the sample gas flow and a rotameter indiates flow rate. The analyzer unit holds the analyzer module, analyzer board, and the arrier gas regulator, serving as the entral unit for gas analysis. The analyzer module an be hanged depending on the appliation. The eletronis housing with display unit ontrols the analyzer, outputs the measured values, and displays measurement results and SGC 3000 status. 2 Page Desription The proess gas to be analyzed is introdued into the sample onditioner whih heats, filters, and adjusts the flow rate of the proess gas. After these adjustments, the proess gas is then direted to the analyzer module. A quantity of the sample proess gas is injeted onto the analyzer module olumn and analysis begins. As the sample gas proeeds through the olumn, its omponents separate based on seletive adsorption on the surfae of the olumn paking material. The onentration (% volume) of eah omponent is measured by a mirothermal ondutivity detetor (TCD) as it exits the olumn. This measurement is then onverted to an analog or digital signal and transmitted to the ontrol system. Features Exhangeable analyzer module The olumn system employed in onventional gas hromatographs results in a ompliated struture and high ost. An exhangeable module in the SGC30 drastially simplifies onfiguration and maintenane. Repair by module replaement means that the SGC an be quikly brought bak on-line, without the need for speially trained tehniians. Fast, reliable analysis of up to four proess variables The SGC30 an provide ontinuous digital output of up to four omponents that an be ommuniated to the Honeywell TDC 3000 ontrol system through the digitally enhaned (DE) mode. For non-tdc users, the SGC an provide data in the analog mode. One-point standard gas adjustment Sine response urve data is entered at the fatory, the SGC30 an be used without any adjustments. Exhange modules are also delivered from the fatory with response urve data. The SGC does not require frequent realibration; a alibration hek is reommended every six months. Compat, field-mountable, robust onstrution redues osts The SGC weighs 4.3 lbs (11 kg) and is field-mounted on a pipe. It an be installed almost anywhere, usually without need for shelter. (Avoid diret sunlight and provide a shelter against wind and rain.) Sine the SGC s ompat design utilizes extremely small volume omponents, sampling, separation, and detetion are 10 to 0% faster than traditional gas hromatographs, resulting in a dramati improvement in effiieny. Optional Features Temperature ontrol steam trap Steam must be supplied for the sample onditioner. A temperature ontrol trap is used at the steam outlet to ontrol the temperature of the sample onditioner. External sample onditioner An external sample onditioner should be used for appliations that inlude any or all of the following: the SGC30 will be installed more than 5 feet (7.6 meters) from the proess line, the proess gas ontains high levels of partiulates (in exess of the instrument speifiation), the proess gas ontains ondensate or other liquid, either ontinuously or intermittently. The shortest yle ranges from 30 to 180 seonds, depending on the module type (refer to Table 1). The yle is hangeable up to 54 minutes using an SFC Model STS103. ±1% full sale Thermal ondutivity method (TCD) The module type determines the available measuring ranges. See the Model Seletion Guide table on page 1 for details. Measuring ranges 0 to 10%, 0 to 0%, 0 to 50%, and 0 to 100%: 5% of the measuring range. Measuring ranges 0 to 1%, 0 to %, and 0 to 5%: 5% of the measuring range or 0.% volume, whihever is larger. Measuring range 0 to 0.5%: 0.1% volume. ATTENTION The minimum detetion level is seletable in the SGC30; the low level ut-off value is entered using the SFC Model STS103. Wetted Parts Materials 303 Stainless Steel, Viton O-rings
