8 Green infrastructure is an approach that communities can choose to maintain healthy waters, provide multiple environmental benefits and support sustainable communities green infrastructure uses vegetation and soil to manage rainwater where it falls. By weaving natural processes into the built environment, green infrastructure provides not only stormwater management, but also flood mitigation, air quality management, and much more

10 How Did EPA get involved in Flooding / Flood Plain Work? 2008 limited flooding / flood plain work. ASFPM helped kick off the discussion ASFPM & Silver Jackets Workshops Increased collaboration between EPA Office of Sustainable Communities and Non-point Source Work on the Stormwater Rule and Hurricane Sandy brought increased focus

12 Increased discussion with USACE on benefits of GI FEMA changes to SHM Plan Guidance environmental benefits EPA interest in plan integration (319 watershed plans, etc.) OWOW RFP to EPA Regions First pilot projects in Huntington, WV and Ashland, OR.

19 Where we are now Kick Off Meeting in Huntington in July 2016 Regular calls with the Planning Team Silver Jackets Proposal was awarded! Stakeholder Meeting in Nov 2016 Working with a contractor to develop the guide first draft scheduled for April 2017 Started working on GIS model

20 GIS model for Identifying GI Opportunities Identify areas where green infrastructure can mitigate flooding and improve water quality Data from Huntington, FEMA, USACE, EPA Collaborative effort with USACE House the end product on a Watershed Resources Registry (WRR) currently being developed for WV
