4 System Oeration The earth s atmoshere is comrised of aroximately 78% nitrogen and 21% oxygen. Once atmosheric air is comressed, its ressure is increased while roortions of nitrogen and oxygen remain unchanged. Once the air is comressed it must be filtered and dried rior to its introduction to the GN2 system. Ste 1. Inlet valves direct the comressed air flow into one of the two adsortion chambers (Right) where the CMS (Carbon Molecular Sieve) adsorbs the oxygen content while allowing the nitrogen to ass creating a high urity nitrogen stream that then exits the adsortion chamber and is stored in the nitrogen storage/buffer tank. The other adsortion chamber (Left) is deressurized to atmoshere through the exhaust valve enabling the CMS to release and exel any reviously adsorbed oxygen to atmoshere. Ste 2. (CMS) Carbon Molecular Sieve The adsortion comonent CMS is a non-olarity based adsorbent that uses a unique ore structure to referentially adsorb oxygen molecules over nitrogen molecules. By adsorbing the oxygen from the rocess stream (Comressed Air) what remains can be virtually ure nitrogen. Because the roduct is a nonolarity based adsorbent, it s hyothetical life is indefinite but realistically it has an industrial service life in excess of 10 years with roer maintenance. Carbon molecular sieve is also widely alied in etrochemical industry, heat treatment industry, and electronic manufacturing as well as the food reservation.
