1 FMM Institute, Penang Branch (Centre for Professional Development) FMM CERTIFICATE IN ENERGY MANAGEMENT 7 March 3 October 2015 In line with the Energy Management Regulation 2008, which, came into effect on December 15, 2008, this programme prepares participants to be accredited as qualified energy manager at their respective place of work. This programme represents a unique effort of FMM Institute to produce a pool of qualified energy manager for the industry towards the noble vision of utilising energy efficiently Course Objective At the end of this programme, participants will: - Be made aware of the importance of energy conservation and energy efficiency issues; Be able to use the knowledge and skills gained to execute energy efficiency practices in their working place, which may include HVAC systems, electrical systems, steam generators, furnaces and internal combustion engines; Be able to use various tools and procedures in energy management, energy auditing and energy planning; Gain knowledge on new technologies and advances in the efficient utilisation of energy; Be certified as a qualified energy efficiency manager at workplace. Efficient Management of Electrical Energy Regulations 2008 [P.U. (A) 444] Reference: [Policies Regulations] Application 3. (1) These Regulations shall apply to: (a) Any installation which receives electrical energy from a licensee or supply authority with a total electrical energy consumption equal to or exceeding 3,000,000 kwh as measured one metering point or more over any period not EXCEEDING six (6) consecutive months; or (b) Any installation which is used, worked or operated by a private installation licensee with a total net electrical energy generation equal to or exceeding 3,000,000 kwh over any period not EXCEEDING six (6) consecutive months

3 FMM Institute ( W), Penang Branch Guidelines for Prospective registered Electrical Energy Manager (Suruhanjaya Tenaga - Energy Commission) Qualification requirements: 1. Warganegara Malaysia yang berumur 23 tahun ke atas; dan 2. Memegang surat perakuan pendaftaran sebagai seorang Jurutera Profesional di bawah Akta Pendaftaran Jurutera 1967 [Akta 138] dan mempunyai sekurang-kurangya enam bulan pengalaman kerja dalam pengurusan tenaga elektri k dengan cekap di sesuatu pepasangan; atau 3. Memegang *ijazah dalam Sains, Kejuruteraan, Seni Bina atau yang setaraf dengannya dan mempunyai sekurangkurangnya satu tahun pengalaman kerja dalam pengurusan tenaga elektrik dengan cekap di sesuatu pepasangan; atau 4. Memegang suatu Perakuan Kekompetenan yang dikeluarkan oleh Suruhanjaya sebagai seorang Jurutera Perkhidmatan Elektrik atau Jurutera Elektrik Kompeten dan mempunyai sekurang-kurangnya sembilan bulan pengalaman kerja dalam pengurusan tenaga elektrik dengan cekap di sesuatu pepasangan; dan 5. Menunjukkan pengetahuan mengenai kehendak akta dan peraturan-peraturan yang memenuhi keperluan Suruhanjaya Tenaga *Recognised degree Evaluation The evaluation will consist of a 2-hour written examination after the completion of the lectures sessions. A compulsory project paper will have to be completed within two months after the completion of the course. Course Structure Number of Contact Days : 14 days Number of Modules : Seven (7) Contact Hours : 98 hours Certification A Certificate of Attendance would be awarded to participants who have fulfilled the 75% attendance course requirement. FMM Certificate in Energy Management will be awarded by FMM Institute to participants who passed FMM Institute assessment of the above course. Certificate of Competency as an Energy Manager will be issued by the Energy Commission Examination Board to participants who pass the Assessment Interview conducted by the board. 5 FMM Institute ( W) Tel: Fax: / Trainer Ir. Harapajan Singh graduated from University of Nottingham United Kingdom in Master of Engineering with Distinction. He also obtained a Diploma in Engineering with First Class (Electrical) from Universiti Teknologi Malaysia, Kuala Lumpur and Certificate in Engineering (Electrical) from Polytechnic Ungku Omar, Ipoh. He was the Technical Lecturer and Head of Electrical Power Unit, with Department of Electrical Engineering at Polytechnic Seberang Perai and later joined a college in Seberang Perai as the Principal. Currently, Ir. H.Singh is a lecturer of a higher learning institution in Penang. He also lectures on a part time basis on Electrical Technology & Power Electronic at Universiti Sains Malaysia. Ir. H.Singh has conducted numerous training and development programmes related to electrical chargeman for companies like Petronas Fertilizer, Perlis Power Plant, Malaysia Airports Bhd and so forth. He has also been a trainer with the FMM since 1996 in all areas related to Electrical Chargeman AO/A4/BO. Ir. H.Singh is also a Registered Electrical Energy Manager with Energy Commission Malaysia and is the main trainer for FMM Certificate in Energy Management Program. Dr. Shanker Kumar currently is a Senior Lecturer and Head of Water Resources Engineering and Management Research Centre in a higher learning institution in Penang. He obtained his PhD from USM. Dr. Shanker has published more than 60 refereed research papers in Internal Journals, Conference Proceedings, seminars, etc. He has conducted various research projects on alternative energy, green energy and bio energy under the funding of Ministry of Higher Education (MOHE).
