1 JUNIOR DEVOPS ENGINEER Job Description Service CGL IT Job Title Junior DevOps Engineer Reports to Systems Development Manager Base Leeds Hours 37.5 hours per week Scale Point Purpose of Job Working as part of a small team, the post holder will build new systems, and develop ways to automate the maintenance of existing systems. As well as providing in-house expertise and technical support to users, the post holder will liaise with current development staff working on CGL Information Systems and will form part of the Development team. Key Activities: To maintain, develop and program internal applications To monitor and support the availability of internal systems Bug investigation and fixing Writing of automatic tests for new and existing code To investigate and research technical solutions to problems identified by practitioners To provide technical support for all users To create and update support documentation

2 To understand key operational needs and produce timely, cost-effective solutions at the quality expected To provide supporting information for the future of internal systems

3 General terms of reference: In carrying out the above duties the post holder will: Work flexibly across operational sites as required Work flexibly within an agreed number of hours of work to maintain the most appropriate level of service provision Seek to improve personal performance, contribution, knowledge and skills Participate in appraisal, training and supervision processes Keep abreast of developments in relevant legislation and practice Ensure the implementation of all CGL policies Contribute to maintaining safe systems of work and a safe environment Undertake other duties appropriate to the grade of the post

4 Person Specification Essential criteria: Good knowledge of Unix (Linux or BSD) based systems Good knowledge of TCP/IP based networking Some familiarity with configuration and infrastructure management tools such as Chef, Puppet, Terraform, Ansible, Salt Awareness of cloud computing systems such as Azure, AWS and GCP Graduate level knowledge of computer science, either through a degree or experience Flexible, enthusiastic technophile, a fast learner and a creative problem solver And the ability to: Communicate confidently and effectively, verbally and in writing. Respond quickly and see an issue through to completion. Respond flexibly to the demands of the post. Show a capacity to work alone and the ability to keep calm under pressure, especially working to deadlines Ability to work as part of a virtual team and liaise with other team members Understand and have a commitment to the principles of equal opportunity and diversity. Desirable criteria: Experience and use of Terraform and Ansible Experience of AWS tools Programming experience (Bash, C, Perl, Python, Ruby, Go) Database administration (MySQL) Experience of system administration A formal education in computer science, such as a degree Understanding of Test Driven Infrastructure, Version Control Systems, tiered application development, Agile and waterfall methodologies, and continuous integration. Understanding of client based systems within the substance misuse field Experience of training users
