4 Cultural Diversity Experience Self awareness Where do you see your experience with Cultural Diversity? Expert 3 - Somewhat Experienced 1- Novice
5 Culture & Cultural Competency Culture is defined as a system of shared values, beliefs, and rituals that are learned and passed on through generations of families and social groups. One s own culture is often taken for granted, not examined, and accepted as the norm. To be culturally competent doesn t mean you are an authority in the values and beliefs of every culture. What it means is that you hold a deep respect for cultural differences; you are eager to learn, and are willing to accept, that there are many ways of viewing the world. Okokon O. Udo, PhD.
6 System A set of connected things or parts forming a complex whole, in particular. A set of things working together as parts of a mechanism or an interconnecting network. A set of principles or procedures according to which something is done; an organized scheme or method. Chaos Complete disorder and confusion Behavior so unpredictable as to appear random, owing to great sensitivity to small changes in conditions.

14 Takeaways Each client is unique. There is more to each of us than what we see on the surface. There are some aspects of diversity that are visible, yet there are many other aspects of diversity that are under the surface and may require carefull and caring exploration with the client. The coaching needs to be inclusive to the whole system. Your ability to include and integrate heavily rely on your willingness to explore the territories outside of your cultural values.
