2 WHAT IS AN APPRENTICESHIP? An Apprenticeship provides you with the opportunity to earn whilst you learn, whilst working towards a nationally recognised qualification. You will be employed by an employer, providing you with the opportunity to put into practice what you are being taught by the College. This will help you succeed in your job and develop your career. You will have a mentor to support you at work and an assessor from the College who will guide you towards completing your qualification. You can become an apprentice once you are 16 years old and have completed your GCSEs at school. There is no upper age limit to becoming an apprentice. Many companies see an Apprenticeship as a real achievement as it shows you have balanced education with employment.

3 WHAT ARE the BENEFITS? Earn while you learn The average weekly wage for an apprentice is 200, but many employers pay more than this. Get paid holiday You ll get at least 20 days paid holiday per year, plus bank holidays. 8 Your next steps... Step 1. Choose your Apprenticeship We offer a range of Apprenticeships at Levels 2, 3 and 4 - take a look through our website, come along to an open event or contact us for more information. Step 2. Apply online Fill in an application form online, whether you have an employer or not: Guildford College - Merrist Wood College - Step 3. Come to an interview We will invite you to an interview and assessment, which normally lasts 2 hours and allows you to discuss your Apprenticeship choices and plans for the future. We ll also tell you about any materials or equipment you need and the support we can offer. Step 4. Find an employer If you haven t already got an employer you will need to find one to support your Apprenticeship. The College can help you to find a suitable employer and apply for the position. The College will work with your employer to provide them with all the necessary information required. Step 5. Enrol at College Your employer will be contacted to arrange all the necessary enrolment paperwork. Step 6. Start learning Once you have enrolled you will begin your training at the College.
