3 Apprenticeships Designed by employers for employers An Apprenticeship is a work-based learning programme that allows you to train both your existing staff and any new people you are thinking of recruiting. An Apprenticeship is a combination of on-the-job and college learning in a variety of subjects, that leads to a nationally recognised qualification. The experience gained from studying an Apprenticeship improves learners employability, making it easier for them to find work and progress in their chosen career. All Apprentices follow an Apprenticeship Framework. This framework consists of a Technical Certificate and training in areas such as Communication and IT. There are many business benefits to employing an Apprentice. These include affordable labour, lower training costs and reduced recruitment costs. 6 How Apprenticeships Work Choosing to employ an apprentice from Nescot or accessing Nescot for your apprenticeship training can be an attractive and highly cost-effective option for your business. Apprentices will spend most of their time learning valuable practical skills by working under close supervision in the hands-on environment you provide. The remainder of their time will be spent in college, learning the theory behind the practice as well as gaining general employability skills. Support For Employers The launch of the National Apprenticeship Service (NAS) in 2009 means that there is now a great deal of support for employers choosing to hire an Apprentice. The recruitment process has been streamlined, making it easy to find a suitable candidate for your business. You will benefit from a close partnership with a college-based assessor who will carry out regular reviews to ensure you are happy with the progress of your Apprentice. Why Choose Nescot? Nescot has a long standing reputation for the provision of Apprenticeships as well as excellent working relationships with a number of employers who return to us for their apprenticeship training on a regular basis. Nescot is committed to providing an excellent range of quality Apprenticeship options in a range of vocational areas and we pride ourselves on the quality of our apprentices, many of which are nominated for awards along with the employers that support them!
7 What Will It Cost? Employing an apprentice can be highly cost-effective for your business as it gives you a chance to train enthusiastic new staff while the government contributes to the cost of learning. The funding operates on a sliding scale, according to the age of your Apprentice. For example, if they are aged between 16 and 18, the National Apprenticeship Service meets the full cost of the training. For more details of the funding available, call us on Further funding may be available to small and medium, sized businesses from the Skills Funding Agency. Skill Levels Nescot currently offers two levels of Apprenticeships, Level 2, Level 3 and Level 4. A standard Apprenticeship enables young people to attain qualifications at Level 2 (equivalent to 5 GCSE passes at A*-C). An Advanced Apprenticeship enables young people to develop skills and qualifications at Level 3 (equivalent to 2 A Levels). There is also a higher level Apprenticeship which provides a qualification that is the equivalent of a foundation degree. Course Length Apprenticeships are flexible courses, so the time they take to complete depends on the level of Apprenticeship being undertaken. Assessment As an Apprenticeship is a work-based qualification, most assessments are carried out in your workplace. Some courses involve written tests and assessments but the way an apprentice is assessed depends on the course they are studying. Entry Requirements Most successful candidates have GCSEs in Grades A*-C in English and Maths. However our application process allows each applicant to be assessed on their individual merit. Apprentices can be as young as 16 though the age range varies. Finding An Apprentice Your first step should be to contact the Apprenticeship Team at Nescot. Our Vacancy Matching Service (VMS) aims to match employers with would be apprentices looking for work. All candidates are screened for their suitability onto their chosen apprenticeship which includes an interview at the college and qualification checks before their details are sent onto the employer for selection.
