1 Training and assessment strategies and practices are the approach of, and method adopted by, an RTO with respect to training and assessment designed to enable learners to meet the requirements of the training package or accredited course. Glossary, Standards for Registered Training Organisation (RTOs) 2015, 20 October 2014 Section 1: Training Product Description Training Product Name Release Number and Date AHC30610 Certificate III in Production Horticulture Release 3 01/JMar/2013 Packaging Rules Units of Competency Based on information available from the following packaging rules apply for completion of this training product: Completion of twelve (12) units made up of one (1) core unit and eleven (11) elective units. ELECTIVE UNITS a minimum of three (3) units must come from elective group A a minimum of five (5) units must come from elective groups A or B a maximum of three (3) units may be selected from units packaged in Certificates III, IV or Diploma in AHC10 or from any other currently endorsed Training Package or accredited course. Selected units must be relevant to job outcomes in the production horticulture industry. Consistent with the packaging rules, the units listed below will be delivered for this training product. The unit code and title is provided and units are grouped into Group A and Group B units. Pre-requisites are listed where relevant. It is important that in these cases, the trainer/assessor refers to the relevant training package and also checks for possible prerequisite units. TasTAFE has determined that the above units will be offered in the delivery of this program. The selection of units has been based on meeting local industry needs and confirmation of the availability of TasTAFE resources, equipment and teaching staff vocational competence. The packaging rules allow for the selection of electives other than those listed above. In cases where the program structure is modified or in response to individual student needs and recognition applications, the Educational Team Leader will approve unit changes ensuring that TasTAFE has the required resources/equipment/materials and vocationally competent teachers as required. Details relating to co-requisite and pre-requisite requirements are listed in the validated Qualification Checklist. Page 2 of 10

3 For details on training and assessment activity, refer to the Training and Assessment Sequencing Plan included as Appendix 1 of this TAS. Industry Engagement Clause 1.5 The industry members who were involved in the development of this training and assessment strategy, including the training and assessment practices were: Andrew Scott- President Fruit Growers Tasmanian As part of ongoing improvement activities and industry consultations, TasTAFE teaching teams consult with industry in the following ways to ensure that resources/equipment and facilities utilised for programs meet current industry standards. Industry and other stakeholder consultations occur on an ongoing basis throughout the year. Evidence of industry consultations and resulting actions is documented. Ongoing consultations with stakeholders assist in evaluating the course and identifying opportunities for improvement. Trainers and Assesses maintain currency records As part of Teacher Registration compliance TasTAFE teaches are required to participate in up to 30 Hours Professional Development throughout each year. This involves Industry visits Subscription to industry magazines Pre-assessment validation Industry meetings Industry consultation meetings. Regular contact with industry stakeholders discussing latest practices and techniques. Entry to the training product Teams retain documented evidence of consultations. Entry Requirements There are no formal entry requirements for this qualification Selection Process As a guide, students are also expected to: o follow occupational health and safety practices o read and understand theory materials o answer short questions deal easily with basic maths (e.g. timetables, conversions, volumes, use of calculators) Page 3 of 10

4 Training Product Location/s Licensing This course is delivered on a state-wide basis however classes are usually delivered at the Clarence Campus at 4a Bounty Street, Warrane. When there is a change to the Training Product that impacts on this TAS, the Education Manager or Division Manager will notify all staff affected as soon as possible. The RTO complies with clauses 1.26 & 1.27 of the Standards for RTOs When there are major changes to the Training Product, the Education Manager or Division Manager will review the changes made and create a plan to transition to the requirements of the new training product and cater for completion arrangements for students where possible. The progress of the transition will be monitored by the Education Manager or Division Manager. Transition arrangements must be completed within 12 months of changes being published on training.gov.au for superseded qualifications and two years for deleted training products (except Skill Sets and units of competency which are 12 months). Section 2: Learners and learning outcomes Learners Learning support Training Product Outcomes The target participants for this training product are People who have gained employment within a Production Horticulture workplace for the purposes of undertaking an Apprenticeship. People already working in a Production Horticulture workplace and wanting to gain a formal qualification e.g. recognition. Students may be fully employed or part-time employed in the production horticultural industry but this is not essential. General TasTAFE Support TasTAFE provides a range of support services including: language, literacy and numeracy support; disability support; child care support; financial advice; Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander support. Further information is available in the Student Handbook, Student Information Brochure and the TasTAFE website. Employment Pathways Job roles and titles vary across different industry sectors. Possible job titles relevant to this qualification include: vegetable farm worker orchard or vineyard farm worker Page 4 of 10

5 mushroom farm worker plantation worker Further Study Pathways Further training pathways from this qualification include, but are not limited to, Certificate IV in Production Horticulture.. Entry and Exit into Training Product There are no entry requirements for this qualification Additional accredited outcomes Completion of the following units within the program enables candidates to obtain following Certificates with respect to the respective unit. First Aid Certificate (HLTAID003 Provide First Aid) Chainsaw operators licence (AHCARB205A Operate and maintain chainsaws). Chemcert (AHCCHM201A Apply chemicals under supervision, AHCCHM303A Prepare and Apply Chemicals, ). Section 3: Training Product Design Recognition Learners are able to have their competency from prior learning and work experience recognised in this qualification through the following arrangements: Recognition in the form of RPL and Credit Transfer is offered to students prior to enrolment. Students who have successfully completed previous training with the TasTAFE or another RTO and who have achieved relevant units will be eligible for credit transfer. Students who have skills and experience and are able to demonstrate competence and currency in a unit or units of competency may be eligible for recognition of prior learning. Recognition is conducted according to the principles of assessment and rules of evidence. Key assessment methods may include, but are not limited to: Competency conversation Observation of practical tasks Observation of performance in the workplace and/or simulated workplace environment Provision of workplace documentation and/or portfolio of evidence related to unit requirements Testimonials/third part reports must clearly relate to unit requirements, be expressed in workplace language and be used to confirm assessment judgement and consistency of performance. 6 AQF Volume of learning Duration and Amount of Training AQF volume of learning indicators (Note these indicators are considered to be a starting point and many factors can affect the amount of training required). Certificate I year hours Certificate II year hours Certificate III * years hours Certificate IV ** years hours Diploma years hours Advanced Diploma years hours * Certificate III qualifications are often the basis for trade outcomes and undertaken as part of a traineeship or apprenticeship. In these cases, up to four years may be required to achieve the learning outcomes. ** Certificate IV qualifications are often either: Shorter duration specialist qualifications that build on existing skills and knowledge Longer duration qualifications that are designed as entry level requirements for specific work roles. The Volume of Learning for a Certificate III is hours or 1-2 years. This program is offered to trainees in industry and it will typically take 18 months to 2 years to complete the qualification. The majority of training will occur through the employees general duties, supplemented by customised off the job workshops delivering technical skills and underpinning knowledge. For this qualification, TasTAFE has adopted the 70:20:10 development model, which encompasses: 70% Occurring on-the-job through practice and experience in the workplace 20% Undertaken through coaching by a more experience operator on a one on one basis in the workplace, and 10% through off the job training activities such as workshops, research projects, small group sessions or via one-on-one sessions where required Training delivery Year of Delivery: 2017 For details on training activity, refer to the Training and Assessment Sequencing Plan included as Appendix 1 of this TAS. Training is on-going and integrated with employment which occurs under supervision. Ongoing practise in the workplace/on the job over the course of their training program provides sufficient time and opportunity to develop the skills and knowledge required to meet unit outcomes. 7 Learning strategies include, but are not limited to: one-to-one coaching with opportunity for demonstration, explanation, practice and feedback job rotation in collaboration with enterprise personnel small group/team workplace projects mentoring to encourage transfer of job knowledge and active participation of the learner. TasTAFE trainers will build capability for skills transfer by coordinating structured mentoring arrangements with co-assessment team members critical thinking/problem solving activities relating to improving work performance workshops, off-job training sessions Training generally involves one-on-one, and/or small group, on or off-the-job trainer facilitation demonstration opportunities for practise discussions: in small groups or 1:1 mentoring and coaching Learning Resources All learning resources specific to the job role as reflected in the training package will be found at the Enterprise. Where specific training is delivered by the TasTAFE teacher, the resources will be contextulised to meet the requirements of the Enterprise. Assessment TasTAFE has a Quality Assessment System (located on the intranet) which aims to ensure that assessment of our students meets the requirements of the nationally endorsed training packages and accredited courses, and produces graduates with the relevant skills and knowledge for the workplace. All assessments for this training program comply with the assessment requirements of the AHC40310 and in accordance with the Principles of Assessment and Rules of Evidence. Section 5: Human and Physical Resources Human Resources All trainers and assessors must meet the training and assessment and vocational requirements specified in the Registered Training Organisations TasTAFE trainer/assessor and competence policies and procedures are located on the TasTAFE Intranet. 11 Appendix 1 The attached training plan above is an indicative plan for a typical student and that it s not something that applies to every trainee/apprentice/workplace based student. Each student, employer and assessor will sit down at sign up and pick the elective units that are most appropriate to the workplace. Some units will be addressed on the job as well as attending training from the training sequencing plan below. Other units will just be delivered and assessed on the job and will not be found in the training sequencing plan below.
