2 HOW TO WITE A STAND-OUT CHAITY POFILE Completing your Charity Profile for ACF s website allows you to best promote your charity to potential workplace giving supporters. This is where employers start their search for potential workplace giving charity partners. It is your chance to make a great first impression and, hopefully, be considered or shortlisted for selection for the employer s workplace giving program. Ensuring your Charity Profile is workplace giving relevant, motivating and persuasive can be a key to your success. What do you need to do? 1. Complete a short 100 word HTML Summary Profile with a great headline and image to capture attention 2. Complete the Detailed Charity Profile which will be featured for public viewing as a link from your HTML profile. This is where employers can obtain more detailed information on your charity. Download the Charity Profile template from the ACF website. You ll find it under Charities on our website. 3. Send your completed profile to info@australiancharitiesfund.org.au Why complete your charity profile? Employers view charity profiles when they undertake their charity research and selection process. It is important your profile covers the key workplace giving information employers have told ACF they need to know about charities in a standardised format. This information will also be used by employers to promote your charity to their employees - your potential donors - if you are selected as a workplace giving charity partner. With over 130 charity partners listed on the ACF website, employers are looking to understand what makes your charity unique and suitable as a workplace giving partner. Detailed profile questions and insights Why does your charity exist? Insight: Describe your vision in 100 words (or less). Why your charity exists and the community issue you are seeking to address or solve - aim to be as inspirational as possible 2
3 What does your charity do? Insight: Describe your mission, including your key programs and services, and the geographic locations where you operate List up to three key statistics relevant to your charity s cause Describe the potential impact of workplace giving donations (if your charity directs workplace giving donations to a particular area of work, describe this work). Consider explaining this as dollar handle statements Insight: Sell the collective impact employer and employee workplace giving donations will have. This will give prospective employers confidence donations will make a difference. For example, if X% of employees donated $2 per pay, $X will be donated per annum which will allow us to do Y. If you direct workplace giving donations to a particular program or area of work, describe this work and provide donation impact data on this program Describe the benefits of partnering with the charity Insight: Employers tell us they want workplace giving relationships to be mutually beneficial. How will your charity establish and build a relationship with their organisation? For example, will your charity offer employers an invitation to visit your organisation, events at the employer s workplace to build awareness about your social cause, a dedicated contact, promotion on your website or recognition in charity publications, or use of your charity logo (if required and as appropriate) Describe how the charity will measure employer and employee workplace giving donation impact Insight: Employers tell us they want to partner with charities who have a proven track record achieving social impact. What impact are your programs or services having in the community? How are these programs or services evaluated and reported? Are you outcomes evidence based? Describe how the charity will communicate workplace giving donation impact to employer partners Insight: ACF research consistently shows donors and non-donors want to hear through their employer real-life stories and employer relevant information on specific projects to bring to life the impact of their collective workplace giving donations Are there other ways the charity can provide engagement opportunities for staff? Insight: Workplace giving is often a starting point for broader corporate community engagement. Many employers want workplace giving to be social and collaborative. Are there are additional opportunities for employers and employees to engage with your charity, and if so, include a brief description of these opportunities, e.g. volunteering, pro-bono work, strategic partnerships. 3
4 INSIGHTS... Keep your Charity Profile simple Why do you exist? What do you do? What need are you meeting? What makes your charity unique to employers and their employees? How will you measure and communicate workplace giving donation impact by employer? 4 Not all charities are able to make opportunities such as volunteering available. Don t worry if you can t and avoid creating opportunities if or where they don t readily exist List current corporate partnerships (highlighting any workplace giving supporters) Insight: Employers love to know what other employers are doing in the workplace giving and corporate responsibility space. This is your opportunity to share a case study on how you have worked with an employer to build a successful workplace giving and corporate responsibility program relationship Key financial information Insight: Employers want to know charities are run efficiently, and the cost of fundraising is a common consideration. If your cost of fundraising is high, explain why. Key contact details Insight: Employers expect information to be current and up-to-date. Ensure you update your Charity Profile whenever key personnel or data change How do employers use your charity profile? Employers use your charity profile to: Find causes relevant to or aligned with their business strategy esearch and select charities during workplace giving program set up
