1 Main Topic 1: Business Introductions Lesson 8: Office Procedures (SOP) (18-25 minutes) Today, you will practice your Reading and Listening Skills as you study texts related to OFFICE PROCEDURES. I. READING Exercise 1: What s missing? (5-6 minutes) Read the following MEMO carefully. Choose the best word that would fill in the blanks. To: From: All employees Lance Smith Chief Operations Officer Date: April 18, 2008 Subject: Cost cutting measures MEMORANDUM Due to the recent economic downturn that our country is experiencing, we are enforcing a few costcutting to deal with the situation. 1.a. measured b. measuring c. measurement d. measures The changes in policies are as follows: 1) Paid overtime will be limited to a maximum of 3hours per week for each employee. Furthermore, overtime is subject to the approval of your respective supervisors. 2) To avoid employees, we are enforcing 4-day work weeks instead of the usual 2.a. removing b. eradicating c. laying-off d. eliminating 5-day work weeks. This means that some employees will work from Monday to Thursday, while others will work from Tuesday to Friday. For your respective schedules, please consult your supervisors. 3) Working on weekends is strictly not allowed unless approved by your supervisor. Please take note that all these policies are strictly being implemented. Noncompliance is subject to disciplinary action.
