READING Exercise 1: What s missing? (5-6 minutes) Read the following MEMO carefully. Choose the best word that would fill in the blanks. Inefficient electrical equipment will be replaced by FOX STAR labeled equipment to save more energy. What does inefficient electrical equipment in the memo mean? Exercise 3: Compare and Connect (3-5 minutes) Read the following INSTRUCTIONAL MANUAL and try to answer the questions that follow. GUIDES IN SAVING ENERGY ON EQUIPMENT Use the FOX STAR labeled equipment since these have a special feature that save more energy than non-fox STAR equipment. Save time by eliminating the daily wait for computers to boot up. Rebooting the computers use more energy than switching it into a low power state when idle. Unplug battery operated electronics such as cell phones and laptops once they are charged because the adapters plugged into outlets consume energy even if they are not charging. Replace the light bulb with a FOX STAR qualified bulb. It will last up to 10 times longer and will use about 75% less energy. Turn off the lights when you leave the office, especially at the end of the day. Do not block air vents with paper, files, and office supplies. It requires as much as 25% more energy to pump air into the workspace if the vents are blocked. Questions: 1. What is the special feature of a FOX STAR labeled equipment? 2.
