1 NATIONAL COLLEGE FOR HIGH SPEED RAIL JOB DESCRIPTION Job title: Commercial Training Manager

2 Job title: Salary/Grade: Reporting to: Commercial Training Manager c 35k plus bonus Head of Curriculum Development Location: Birmingham or Doncaster with regular travel to the other campus and other locations The location, hours of work and duties could be varied according to the needs of the service. Part time or job share requests will be considered. 1. Context The National College for High Speed Rail is a brand new incorporated FE College that has been established to train the next generation of the rail workforce. Covering the breadth of the rail industry from design to people experience, construction, maintenance and operations, the College is training learners from the age of 18 in Higher Apprenticeships, full time higher education courses and part time or short courses. Learners who have attended the National College will gain skills that enable UK employers to support the development and running of HS2 and future high speed rail projects at home and around the world. The College s vision is to Pioneer Technical Excellence, setting new standards for collaboration and diversity in what will be a major growth industry for the UK in future years. We opened to students in September 2017, with two main hub sites in Birmingham and Doncaster and a network of spokes via partner arrangements across the UK. Job purpose The purpose of this job is to provide specialist knowledge and experience to develop a commercial course offer to businesses (our Continuing Professional Development (CPD) programme) that meets the needs of employers with an interest in or already engaged with the development and operation of high speed rail and the modernisation of existing rail. The individual undertaking this role will be required to develop and coordinate this programme of courses that is high quality and valued by our customer base. 3. Reporting relationships Reports to: Head of Curriculum Development 2

Accountabilities To be responsible for the development and delivery of a portfolio of commercial (CPD) education programmes that supports the development of the UK s High- Speed and traditional Rail industry To work with the Head of Marketing and Communications to ensure a clear and effective marketing and promotion strategy is employed across all appropriate channels To develop and maintain a catalogue of provision of the College s commercial training offer To develop and maintain fact sheets on each programme that can be used to market the programme effectively To be responsible for the achievement of income targets To market test and cost courses to ensure cost effectiveness and competitiveness To research the further education and private training markets for commercial (CPD) provision, including research of existing provision available to employers in order to identify opportunities in the market To support the development of quality standards and assessment approaches for CPD programmes To work with awarding bodies, universities partners, industry organisations and employers To work with the Business Development Manager to ensure that there is an effective sales process that contributes to the achievement of agreed targets To establish and utilise industrial links in order to: o Design bespoke programmes o Establish sustainable, long-term relationships o Identify current and future industry needs To work with the College s technology teams and providers to: o Develop on-line booking, management and payment methods o Engage modern technology in the delivery of the programme To work with the wider curriculum team to ensure that there is an efficient and comprehensive education offer across the College To participate in the design and delivery of other education programmes where applicable 5.
