More employers should take responsibility for the training and development of their existing or future workforce and with the right funding and training provider this can be easily achieved Steve Stanier Senior Human Resources Manager Birmingham Women s NHS Foundation Trust 1

Welcome The Apprenticeship Team at Bournville College are here to assist organisations in the recruitment of new staff and to up-skill existing staff to help with skills shortages. Apprenticeships offer employers the chance to train their workforce for the future and a young person a full time job and valuable qualifications. Bournville College will help assist employers right from the start; discussing the right framework, completing an organisational needs analysis, promoting the vacancy free of charge and undertaking all initial assessments of the learner. Bournville College is organised around your needs and is staffed by trainers who are qualified and experienced practitioners in their subject areas. Our Business Development Team forms the vital link between business, trade organisations, funding bodies and the College. In the Ofsted Inspection report 2011, it was commented that Partnership work is outstanding. Productive partnerships enable the college to be highly responsive to the needs of its community and employers. If you would like any more information or have any queries please contact us on the details below bournville.ac.uk apprentice@bournville.ac.uk LinkedIn /company/bournville-college 2

Apprentice of the Month Bournville College is delighted to announce the initiative of Apprentice of the Month. The award is open to all apprentice employees working in your organisation in partnership with Bournville College. The initiative has been launched to recognise the value that apprentices bring to your organisation and to reward the individual for their hard work during the scheme. Nominating an apprentice gives your organisation the chance to be recognised for your support and commitment to the apprenticeship scheme too. Each month a panel will select a winner and present the individual with vouchers and conclude with a case study / press release on the organisation and apprentice, conducted by the College s marketing team. For more information please contact Akeila Browne on or akeila.browne@bournville.ac.uk 16

24+ Advanced Learning Loans From April 2013, anyone aged 24+ and starting a Level 3 or Level 4 apprenticeship may apply for a 24+ Advanced Learning Loan. The loans are designed to help them pay their tuition fees and are available to all UK nationals. It s easy to apply, their household income isn t taken into account and there s no credit check. They won t have to pay anything back until their income is over 21,000 a year. 24+ Advanced Learning Loans are similar to higher education loans, but have been introduced for further education students and apprentices. To qualify apprentices will need to be: Aged 24 and over at the start of their apprenticeship A resident in the UK for 3 years prior to the start of the apprenticeship Enrolling on a course at level 3 and above, such as: Advanced Apprenticeships or Higher Apprenticeships The loans are not means tested or credit checked and any individual who meets the criteria will be able to apply for a loan whether they re employed or unemployed the loan will then be paid directly to the college on their behalf. The apprentices don t pay anything up front for their course fees and if they re not earning over 21,000 they won t have to pay anything back until they reach this salary. For more information please contact the Student Finance Team on /1773 or studentfinance@bournville.ac.uk 17

Our apprentices are both professional, hard-working and have a good working relationship within the branch and customers. I am looking forward to seeing them develop further; they have a very bright future in this organisation Ian Chapman, Assistant Branch Manager SAS Direct 18
