For those on the partner track, we provide an outside, in-depth, two year leadership training program. Firm leaders who have been through it say it s amazing and extremely helpful. Even our interns get evaluated and receive group, as well as individualized, training. We truly care about our employees and recognize that the world of work has and is changing. 3 Ascent Leadership Summit Internships Each summer, we host a 2-day leadership program called the Ascent Leadership Summit. This program is designed to assist elite college students gain a better understanding of the public accounting industry and characteristics needed to succeed in this environment. The program may include a variety of things such as: Developing networking skills Learning about different specialty areas in public accounting Meeting clients, touring facilities, and working on a volunteer project a nonprofit client Hearing from our staff as to what it takes to be successful in public accounting, lessons learned, and tips they wish they had prior to starting their careers This program is open to students in their sophomore, junior, or senior years who have declared or are considering declaring accounting as their major. As part of the application process, students are ask to complete a 500 word essay on one of four topic choices. While ultimately it would be great if Ascent leads to students doing a spring internship with us and eventually becoming Mueller Prost employees, our goal is help students find their path. The program allows our interns to experience the field of public accounting and participate in areas such as tax compliance, attest or assurance services, or assist with various consulting projects. Interns become part of our team with each intern getting hands-on experience preparing billable client work for a diverse set of clients in various industries. Our interns receive one full week of in-depth training on CPA firm processes and software programs. In addition to formal training, interns are assigned supervisors and coaches to assist and guide them. Qualifications: The firm provides spring semester internship opportunities to select accounting students who have completed a minimum of introductory accounting courses and have an overall GPA of I m grateful for the time I spent as an intern at Mueller Prost. 4 A Day in The Life of a Mueller Prost Employee Today I reached out to a company providing online bill, committee, and legislator tracking services that provide information related to upcoming state and national level tax legislation and specific bills. This allows me to notify our clients of important updates to legislation that may impact them. I met with a Missouri healthcare client for lunch to discuss HUD financing and plan for fieldwork. I also met with a local animal shelter that I serve on the board for to discuss interim financial statements and budgeting. After that, I utilized our membership in a national association of accounting firms, called Allinial Global, to reach out to another member firm as a resource to discuss a client s potential move to Puerto Rico and the possible tax implications. I created a memo recapping our discussion and sent it to the client. We truly are utilized by our clients as a resource to assist them in large and important decisions. - Tiffany L.
