3 Dear Students, Welcome to your Recreation Studies course for Years 11 and 12. This course has also been designed to allow you to complete the qualification: SIS20310 Certificate II in Sport and Recreation. At the commencement of your Recreation Studies course, you also receive provisional registration in the Certificate 11 in Sport and Recreation. Please note that issuance of awards are subject to your attendance record (minimum 90%) and completion of all set assessment items. This qualification is provided under a partnership between Merrimac SHS and the Tallebudgera Beach Outdoor Education Centre (TBOES). Your Merrimac SHS staff provide the training and TBOES, as the supervising Registered Training Organisation, provides the qualification. This qualification is a Vocational Education and Training qualification. This means that it is one of the qualifications from the Sports National Training Package and as a Certificate II, its aim is to support you obtain entry to work in the sport industry. From school, this qualification can help you obtain a Certificate III traineeship, for example, in sport, fitness, or even retail. You may even wish to enter a Certificate IV or Diploma in Sport program at TAFE or at another training organisation that covers sport. As well, it may help you if you apply for a job as it shows that you have worked well to achieve a VET qualification while still at school. As you can see, your training plan covers core competencies, and electives that draw on your surfing experience. This qualification provides the skills and knowledge for an individual wishing to work in the sport and recreation industry in a generalist capacity. Likely functions for someone with this qualification can include providing support in the provision of sport and recreation programs, grounds and facilities maintenance, routine housekeeping, retail and customer service assistance, administrative assistance or bar and café service in locations such as a fitness centre, outdoor sporting grounds or complexes or aquatic centres. All job roles are performed under supervision. The inclusion of resistance training through Fitness First supports students employability skills acquisition. Where students enter the program with existing sport qualifications, extensive work experience or higher level sport experience in applicable areas, Recognition of Prior Learning and Direct Credit Transfer is available to students on provisional enrolment at no cost. Fees and charges are advised by Merrimac SHS in advertising. Refund applications are managed by the HOD. Fees paid in advance are protected. Language Literacy and Numeracy (LLN) assistance is provided by the high school. The school provides welfare and guidance services for students. Training is provided in class groups face-to-face as well as individualised support provided as required by the school. Assessment is reviewed in the course and is subject to Tallebudgera Beach School Outdoor Education School's validation process. Within this process, students are provided with the opportunity to provide feedback on the program's assessment framework, which is acted upon within the organisation's Vocational Area Internal Review structure.
