5 2 Inbound Process with Repacking for Putaway You use this business process to receive packed goods from vendors and repack them at a packing station before moving them to a pallet rack in the warehouse. The vendors send advanced shipping notifications (ASNs) to SAP ERP. A truck contains one or more inbound deliveries. The goods are packed by the vendors but must be repacked for putaway purposes so that each pallet contains only a single product. The following figure illustrates the correlation between the physical process and the manual or automatic activities in the system: Figure 1: Inbound Process with Repacking for Putaway Part 1 Inbound Process with Repacking for Putaway Copyright 2015 SAP SE or an SAP affiliate company. 6 ... Figure 2: Inbound Process with Repacking for Putaway Part 2 When a truck arrives, a checkpoint clerk creates a transportation unit (TU) in SAP Extended Management (EWM) and directs the truck to a door. The truck driver brings the delivery notes to the goods receipt (GR) office. A GR office clerk finds the corresponding inbound deliveries in the system and assigns them to the TU. If the number of handling units (HUs) is printed on the delivery notes, the GR office clerk creates HUs with unknown content for the deliveries, and prints the labels for the HUs. A warehouse worker unloads the truck. A warehouse clerk checks the quantities on the pallets and attaches the labels to the pallets at the staging area. If the number of HUs is not printed on the delivery notes, the warehouse clerk counts the number of unloaded pallets and writes them on the delivery notes. He or she then takes the revised delivery notes to the GR office. The GR office clerk corrects the GR quantities; if necessary he or she creates HUs with unknown content, and posts the GR. He or she checks out the truck and the truck leaves the door and the premises. Upon the GR posting, the system automatically creates HU warehouse tasks (WTs) to move all pallets of the deliveries to a storage bin in the inbound section of the packing station. At the packing station, a packer repacks the goods onto pallets for storage. Once an HU is closed in the system, the system automatically creates the HU WTs for the putaway of the pallet into the final storage bin. A warehouse worker (for example, a forklift driver) executes the putaway using a radio frequency (RF) device. This process does not use the quality inspection function. Prerequisites You have received ASNs from vendors and they exist as inbound deliveries in SAP ERP and EWM. For more information about the configuration prerequisites, see Configuration of Inbound Process with Repacking for Putaway [page 12]. Process The business process runs in EWM as follows: 1. A truck arrives at the checkpoint and drives to the door (EWM) When the truck arrives, a checkpoint clerk identifies the vendor using the delivery notes. In this business process, the vendor is a regular vendor who sends goods on pallets with ASNs. The checkpoint clerk has a printed list of such vendors. The checkpoint clerk creates a TU. He or she writes the TU number on one of the delivery notes. Since the goods delivered regularly by the vendor are always unloaded at the same doors, the checkpoint clerk verifies if one of those doors is free. If a door is free, he or she assigns it to the TU and directs the truck there. In a small-to-medium sized yard, the checkpoint clerk confirms the arrival of the truck at the door. This step is necessary for the checkpoint clerk to see in the system that the door is occupied. If there is no door free, the truck driver must wait. The checkpoint clerk informs the truck driver as soon as a door is free and then assigns the TU to the door. In large yards, the GR office clerk can confirm the arrival of the truck at the door in a separate step. In this case, the checkpoint clerk only confirms the arrival of the truck at the checkpoint. 2. Check the delivery notes and assign the inbound deliveries to the TU (EWM) The truck driver brings the delivery notes to the GR office. The GR office clerk finds the corresponding inbound deliveries in the system and assigns them to the TU. Variant A: If the number of HUs is printed on the delivery notes, the GR office clerk creates HUs with unknown content for the deliveries and the system automatically prints HU labels. If an inbound delivery does not exist yet due to a communication failure of the ASN, the GR office clerk manually creates the inbound delivery using the external delivery note number. If the ASN communication failure is solved after the manual creation of the inbound delivery, the system issues an error message upon processing the ASN, and no duplicate delivery is created. 3. Unload the truck and check the goods The unloading can be carried out at the same time as the previous step. A warehouse worker (for example, a forklift driver) unloads the truck. A warehouse clerk checks the goods against the delivery notes. Variant A: The warehouse clerk attaches an HU bar code label on each pallet. Copyright 2015 SAP SE or an SAP affiliate company. Inbound Process with Repacking for Putaway 6 All rights reserved.

7 Variant B: The warehouse clerk counts the number of unloaded pallets and writes it on the delivery notes. He or she takes the revised delivery notes to the GR office. This step is not carried out in the system. 4. Post the goods receipt and create WOs (EWM) The GR office clerk adapts the inbound deliveries according to the revised delivery notes. In the case of a quantity deviation or a missing product, the GR office clerk adjusts the quantity in the system with an appropriate process code. If an additional product has been delivered, the GR office clerk creates a new inbound delivery item for the additional product. Variant B: The GR office clerk creates the number of HUs with unknown content based on the counted quantity of HUs from the physical check. The system prints the HU labels and the GR office clerk passes them to the warehouse clerk, who goes back to the staging area where the truck has been unloaded. He or she attaches an HU bar code label on each pallet. Finally, the GR office clerk posts the GR for the TU. The system sends the GR to SAP ERP. When the GR is posted, the system automatically creates the HU WTs and WOs to move the goods to the next empty storage bin in the inbound section of the packing station. All pallets of the same TU are moved to the same storage bin. If the WOs cannot be created because all inbound storage bins in the packing station are occupied, the system continues to try to create the WOs automatically until they are created. 5. The truck leaves (EWM) The truck leaves the door and the premises. The GR office clerk confirms the departure of the truck from the checkpoint and from the door. This step is necessary for the checkpoint clerk to see in the system that the door is free. In large yards, the checkpoint clerk can confirm the departure from the checkpoint separately. In this case, the GR office clerk only confirms the departure of the truck from the door. 6. Move the HUs to the packing station (EWM) The warehouse worker moves the HUs to the packing station. This step is carried out using an RF device. The warehouse worker (for example, a forklift driver) chooses the necessary equipment (for example, vehicle and RF device) and logs on as a resource. The warehouse worker picks the first pallet from the staging area and scans its ID with the RF device. The system finds the open HU WT. The warehouse worker is prompted to bring the HU to the destination storage bin in the inbound section of the packing station. There he or she drops off the HU and scans the storage bin, thus confirming the WT. He or she drives back to the staging area to proceed with the next HU. A peculiarity of this process is that during the creation of the HUs with unknown content, the system creates a collective HU that carries all delivery items. The HU WT for moving the collective HU to the destination bin in the inbound section of the packing station is then immediately confirmed. As a consequence, the HUs with unknown content are moved to the same destination bin as the collective HU. 7. Repack the goods (EWM) The inbound section of the packing station is divided into several storage bins. Each storage bin is equipped with a card holder. A packer inserts his or her card into the card holder to signal that he or she is working on that particular storage bin. He or she picks up the first pallet from that storage bin and scans the ID of the collective HU. The HU is automatically displayed by the system. The packer navigates to the HU content, picks a product from the HU and selects the corresponding HU item. The system then displays the total quantity of the delivery item and proposes a packaging material for the putaway HU, and a target quantity for the product. If necessary, the packer adjusts the item quantity and repacks the product into the putaway HU. The putaway HU is created in the system upon confirmation of this step. Upon HU creation, an HU label is printed automatically. The packer attaches the HU label to the HU. If he or she has packed the exact target quantity into the HU, he or she immediately completes the packing of the HU in the system. The system prints an HU content list. The packer attaches the HU content list to the HU and moves the HU to the outbound section of the Inbound Process with Repacking for Putaway Copyright 2015 SAP SE or an SAP affiliate company. 8 packing station. The system automatically creates an HU WT for the putaway to the final storage bin. The packer repeats this procedure with all pallets from the source bin. Once all products have been repacked, the packer closes all remaining HUs in the system, attaches the HU content list to the corresponding HU, and moves the HUs to the outbound section of the packing station. The system automatically creates the HU WTs for the putaway to the final storage bin. Empty pallets used for storage are brought to the packing station at regular intervals and the empty pallets from the vendors are removed. These steps are not carried out in the system. If the system cannot suggest a packaging material for a product due to missing packaging specification, the packer informs the warehouse clerk. The warehouse clerk identifies the product and creates the packaging specification. In the meantime, the packer can repack the other products. Once all other products have been repacked, only the product with missing packaging specification remains in the source HU. The packer puts the pallet aside. In the system he or she moves the HU from the inbound section to the main section, so that the inbound section is free for the next delivery. Once the warehouse clerk has created the packaging specification, the packer can repack the product and trigger the final putaway. 8. Put away the goods (EWM) The warehouse worker moves the putaway HUs to the final storage bins. This step is carried out using an RF device. The warehouse worker (for example, a forklift driver) chooses the necessary equipment (for example, vehicle and RF device) and logs on as a resource. He or she picks one HU from the outbound section of the packing station and scans its ID. The system finds the open HU WT. The worker is prompted to bring the HU to the final destination bin in the pallet storage. There he or she drops off the HU and scans the bin, thus confirming the WT. He or she drives back to the packing station to proceed with the next HU. Process Monitoring If the warehouse worker finds an empty pallet in the destination bin, he or she removes it from the bin and brings it to the area reserved for empty pallets. This step is not carried out in the system. In this business process, you can use the following monitoring functions: Process Step Objects to Be Monitored Activities All GR workload list 1. 10 3 Configuration of Inbound Process with Repacking for Putaway You use this process to configure the Inbound Process with Repacking for Putaway [page 6]. You can use this configuration process in the following warehouses in SAP Extended Management (EWM): Standard warehouse W001 with preconfigured business processes This is the recommended way of getting started with EWM. For more information, see the business scenario Management with Preconfigured Processes [external document]. Your own warehouse To set up the preconfigured business processes in standard warehouse W001, implement all configuration steps except the steps marked with Optional. These steps help you to understand the configuration of the processes but do not require a manual activity. To configure the processes in your own warehouse, implement all configuration steps. In the steps marked with Optional, check if you need to adapt the existing entries to your own warehouse and carry out changes as needed. All configuration steps require activities in EWM unless the documentation explicitly tells you to carry out an activity in SAP ERP. Procedure To separate inbound business processes, the inbound deliveries for this business process use a special document type in the ERP system. For the inbound delivery notification creation and the inbound delivery creation in SAP Extended Management (EWM), the document type used in the SAP ERP system (for example, ZEL) must be mapped to the corresponding EWM document type. The same applies to the item types. 1. Check the following entry in Customizing for Extended Management under Interfaces ERP Integration Delivery Processing Map Document Types from ERP System to EWM: Document Type from ERP ZEL Mapping Delivery Type Document Type IERP If you use a document type other than ZEL, create the entry for your SAP ERP delivery type accordingly. 2. 21 Process Type Means of Transport Carrier Goods Movement W001 P111 1 (Goods Movement to Storage Bin Specified in Delivery) Result Doors DI02 and DI03 have no storage bin assigned in the system, and the control of the goods movement is configured to be posted to the storage bin specified in the delivery. The staging bay is used as the goods movement bin even though the delivery is assigned to a TU and the TU is docked to a door. You create an inbound delivery in SAP ERP with document type ZEL. The system creates an inbound delivery with document type IERP in SAP Extended Management. The system determines warehouse process type P111 for the inbound delivery items. After the assignment of the TU to door DI02 and the assignment of the inbound delivery to the TU, staging area STAG-I01 is determined for the inbound delivery items. 3.4 Configuring Handling Unit Creation You use this procedure to configure the creation of a collective handling unit (HU) and HUs with unknown content before goods receipt posting. This includes the packaging material to be used for the collective HU and the configuration that the inbound delivery needs to be packed before goods receipt posting. Procedure 1. Check the following entries in Customizing for Extended Management under SCM Basis Pack Handling Units Define HU Types: HU Type D1 E1 Dummy HU Europallet 2.
