1 PREPARING YOUR CORE RETURNS HOW CORE WORKS: PACKAGING Core Packaging Requirements Packaging... 1 Shipping... 3 Using Con-Way...4 Fuel Tank Returns...6 When packaging cores for shipment it is recommended to do the following: Create a GF259 for each individual pallet of cores to be returned to the Core Center, per G-Letter G A. Brake shoe returns are excluded from this requirement. For more information, see Single GF per Pallet section of this guide. Failure to comply with this requirement will result in a $250 penalty per pallet. (1) gallon of liquid, there will be a deduction of $150. Reference G Letter G A, Due to safety regulations within our core processing facility, do not stack freight on pallet more than 48 high. Return shipments taller than 48 cause dangerous work environments for both the dealership and inspection center and may result in a penalty of $250 per pallet. Core Packaging Process Select a quality box or container to place cores in. (corrugated cardboard boxes are preferred.) Place box on a good pallet. The pallet should be at least as large as the box you are putting the parts in. When possible, package heavier cores (i.e. clutches, steering gears, starters, or cylinder heads) in the bottom of the box. in how you pack parts that chip or break easily (i.e. fan clutches and compressors). When sending small components (i.e. injectors and small valves) packing them together in a small box or envelope to put in your larger container will help prevent loss in transit. Seal box with tape and band it to the pallet. Make sure to band all engines, transmissions and carriers to their respective pallets. NOTE: Do not place loose cores on pallet and then shrink wrap to the pallet. This could result in the core being lost or damaged. (see picture below.) 3 HOW CORE WORKS: SHIPPING The following is a list of acceptable means for shipping core returns to the Core Center. Failure to comply with these guidelines may results in additional fees or penalties of a minimum of $100 per shipment or up to the cost of the additional freight charges due to errors incurred by violating the shipping policies. Shipments of 1,000 to 15,000lbs: (LTL) Less than Trailer Load Shipments For all shipments under 15,000 Lbs or less than 16 pallets, please utilize the Con-Way/Navistar website: or call for LTL pickup. Please refer to the Con-Way website for the most accurate and up-to-date information on shipping locations and forms. Additional instructions on how to use the Con-Way for Navistar website and online form are included in this guide. Freight charges on LTL Shipments to Core Center Shipments of 1,000 lbs., or more, may be shipped freight collect. Shipments less than 1,000 lbs. must be shipped freight prepaid. Requests by the shipper for lift-gate trailers will be at the shipper s expense. Failure to follow these procedures may result in a charge back to the shipper. These procedures are subject to change. Shipments of 15,000lbs or More: Trailer Load Shipments For all Truck load shipments (TL) over 15,000 Lbs or total pallet count of 16 or more, please contact C re Customer Service at UPS Shipments For UPS shipments, please send them prepaid to the following address: Navistar Core Return Operations C/O Caterpillar Reman Facility - DOC Sawyer Road Corinth, MS Just like LTL core return shipments, be sure to label core return shipments sent via UPS with the core return shipment number. 4 HOW CORE WORKS: SHIPPING WITH CON-WAY FREIGHT Creating an Online Bill of Lading (BOL) The easiest and most accurate way to create a BOL to ship core returns is by utilizing the Con-Way website for Navistar dealers, To create a BOL, begin by selecting the state in which the core return will be picked up by the carrier. For instance, if the core shipments are being arranged for pickup in Chicago, the link to Get BOL for the corresponding zip code (circled above) should be selected. A blank BOL in the form of an Adobe PDF will appear. This form cannot be saved, ed or electronically submitted to Con-Way Freight, however, it can easily be printed to use in packaging the core returns, freight shipping and maintaining records of core return shipments. Please note: scans of Con-Way Freight BOLs can be downloaded from the website if a copy with shipper and driver signatures is needed at a later date. 5 HOW CORE WORKS: SHIPPING WITH CON-WAY FREIGHT Filling out the Bill of Lading (BOL) checked, the dealership or shipper will be responsible for the freight charges. the core center to determine whether or not all pallets have been received at the processing center. like engines, etc. Cores must be described on the Bill Of Lading as used automotive parts having value for reconditioning or salvage only. (Class 70) Estimate the weight of each pallet. Print the completed BOL form and present this as shipping documents to the Con-Way driver. 6 HOW CORE WORKS: SHIPPING FUEL TANK RETURNS Returning Fuel Tank Data Plates Please note that fuel tank plates and tags are no longer accepted by the core center sent through the U.S. Postal Service. There are two methods to process fuel tank returns for core credit: Submit the tank plate or tag along with other core returns and enter the appropriate part number on the online GF259 form. Place tank plate or tag in an envelope and clearly mark Fuel Tank Data Plate Enclosed. This core will be processed as other core returns. Request a fuel tank waiver form and electronic (MS Excel format) GF259.
