4 Locations & Infrastructures Continuation of the Concept of Intermodal Transport and Freight Villages of the Government of the Federal State of Niedersachsen Client: Ministry of Economiy, Labour and Transport of Niedersachsen With its eight freight villages, Niedersachsen is a major location for intermodal transport and freight villages in Germany. For future positioning, the already existing concept for modal transport and freight villages was updated in 2012 by order of the Ministry of Economics, Labour and Transport of Niedersachsen. At the same time, an image folder was designed to indicate the various levels of performance of Niedersachsen in the fields of modal transport. The image folder can be used by the logistics locations for marketing purposes. By means of guided expert interviews, current transshipment and forecasted volumes had been identified, relation-specific analyses had been performed and already existing funding measures and programs had been evaluated. Freight village locations have developed successfully and the funding has strengthened Niedersachsen as a logistics location. Four different options ( crash barriers ) which are necessary for the successful development of freight village and modal transport in Niedersachsen were identified. 2
