12 Recognize to recover The United States Soccer Federation's Recognize to Recover health and safety program recommendations are.. All players 10 years old and younger, shall not engage in heading in practice/training or in games. For all players 11 and 12 years old, heading training will be limited to a maximum of 30 minutes per week with no more that headers per player, per week. In addition to the safety initiatives, the following modified rule will be implemented: When a player deliberately heads the ball in a game, an indirect free kick (IFK) will be awarded to the opposing team from the spot of the offense. If the deliberate header occurs within the goal/penalty area, the indirect free kick will be taken on the goal/ penalty area line parallel to the goal/penalty line at the point nearest to where the infringement occurred. If a player does not deliberately head the ball, then play should continue. 12
