2 Executive Summary Supplier capability in China Computer Accessories Suppliers of computer accessories in China expect to maintain the country s overall share in global output of 60 to 80 percent this year. They are emphasizing product-driven initiatives to offset the effects of escalating material and manufacturing costs. Companies are taking advantage of developments in the PC sector to boost their lines. They are eyeing the surging sales of tablet PCs led by the ipad, and the strong laptop segment. The gathering adoption of USB 3.0 is also providing impetus, especially in renewing buyer interest in certain categories such as portable HDDs and enclosures. In addition, the convergence trend continues to expand the application base of the line to the consumer electronics, communications and automotive sectors. Maturity and low prices, meanwhile, sustain traditional product groups amid R&D shifts. Scope & methodology This report covers the major products of China s computer accessories industry. These are accessories and supplies for the ipad, pointing devices, headsets, portable storage, cameras, USB peripherals, speakers and other auxiliary products. For each category, details about the different types offered, their common features and price determinants are provided. The Industry Overview elaborates on issues affecting production and exports. It also identifies the common strategies manufacturers are employing to boost sales and enhance overall competitiveness. To reflect the industry structure, the majority of the suppliers featured in this report are local, privately owned enterprises. Hong Kong- and Taiwaninvested businesses are also covered. The province of Guangdong is the main production center. Reflecting Key findings 1. China continues to secure market lead in global supply of accessories for the ipad, computer mice and headsets, USB peripherals and PC cameras, while it has a significant share in speakers. 2. Production and R&D keep up with evolving trends in the computer industry, but makers are also sustaining efforts to support lines based on earlier and mature technologies. They highlight better performance and price advantage, and value-added features to raise marketability. These include wired as against wireless, USB 2.0 over 3.0, DVD over Blu-ray, 2.1 channel versus 5.1 and above, and CMOS as opposed to CCD. 3. The EU and North America remain the major destinations as these are more responsive to new this structure, 86 percent of featured companies are based there. To produce the report, Global Sources interviewed a wide range of suppliers. Rather than focus simply on high-profile makers, we compiled a representative sample of large, midsize and emerging manufacturers. All profiled companies are export-oriented professional suppliers that are verified by Global Sources. Each supplier is confirmed to be authentic with a legally registered business. All companies are visited three or more times by Global Sources to ensure they are export-ready and have real offices and products. The listed contact person has been verified to represent the registered company. In each case, companies were required to answer specific questions designed to verify their manufacturing and export credentials. developments in the PC sector, especially in the high end. Despite challenges, companies are optimistic about the line, with nearly all expecting higher export sales in the next 12 months. A greater number anticipates an increase of at least 10 percent. All profiled suppliers participated in a survey designed to provide insight into price trends, sales outlook and target markets in the next six months. All survey questions are single choice.
