2 Responsive html s TaxJournal Re-coding and designing a campaign of 5 responsive templates to use different branding and layout, to blend with the online website and printed magazines.
3 Inspiration Qi Baishi 齊白石, My original paintings Terrific Home Dining The client wanted to emphasis the freshness of ingredients: the dinner party meal is cooked in the customer s home that evening. I avoided stock, anonymous photography to emphasis the personal service. I also wanted to nod towards the chef s Cantonese heritage but to look higher premium than a takeaway leaflet. Inspired from a famous Chinese painter, I created my own watercolours. The scripted font echoes ink calligraphy, and is easy to find (Zapfino) in case another designer works on future projects.
4 Terrific Home Dining Original painting and branding Business cards and first leaflet. I also advised the client on paper stocks for the printing and provided a hosted gif of the logo to use alongside her signature.
5 Design and artworking LawWorks report 40pp report, including charts, graphs and image searching. Liasing with our print purchaser to advise the client on paper stocks and finishes.
6 Illustration, artworking and Prezi video Concur To promote a new expenses system. Using the existing sketched style of the brand, I drew new storyboard illustrations to show how the software worked, and animated them in Prezi. My colleague filmed the Prezi and recorded a voiceover. Together we saved the department the 10,000 quoted for a bespoke instruction video. I designed an interesting deskdrop with the aim of it being small and cute enough to keep as a instructional reminder.
7 A range of html s Recently I ve been coding and designing more responsive html s. I ve been coding & designing tables-based html s (later with CSS3) for 9 years. I can also trouble-shoot errors in code. My priority is always deliverability and accessibilty.
8 PowerPoint presentation 24 slides adapting a print document from Adapting and re-creating graphics and charts in illustrator, Photoshop and Powerpoint, whilst keeping the main body of text editable in PowerPoint.
9 Vinyl pullup banners and window graphics I really enjoy large-format work for exhibitions and display. The bookshelf graphic above was created in photoshop and each book represents a real individual title from the publisher. The vinyl window graphics are an inventive use of space in a shop window, where we were limited to covering only 40% of the window pane.
10 N Design story: Ready4work programme Design materials for a work experience scheme for ex-homeless people: Ready 4 work. Our corporate image could be too intimidating. I suggested avoiding blues and using warm colours with soft shapes. Research showed different benefits of the scheme: My painting shows the merging of soft and hard skills with key words, colours and curved shapes. I wanted a believable script font to be used for the real-life quotes from participants. Emotional soft skills Feeling appreciated Regaining confidence Being part of a team Getting back into the world of work A reason to get up in the morning Practical hard skills Work experience Communication skills IT skills Something to put on a CV Experience and a suit for interviews
11 N Design story: Ready4work programme Using Fontifier.com I created a truetype font. I re-wrote the original form s questions to be less offputting, and peppered it with optimistic quotes. I briefed the photographer, Briar Shaw for Clear, bright, approachable portraits. I suggested separate leaflets as they are cheaper to update than a booklet. Folder template has glueless interlocking curves to save on finishing costs and can be stored flat. The folder and leaflets are A5, to fit into rucksacks.
12 Is lack of work experience We offer placements in departments such as catering, post room and reprographics, as well as IT, marketing and HR. We provide everyone who joins our work experience scheme with work clothes, a buddy, interview practice and CV advice. I devised a storyboard and colour palette, with a theme of curves and positive phrases. I designed the leaflets and poster, copywrote the form, artworked the die cut for the folder, and created the script font using Fontifier. Photography by Briar Shaw. All you need are basic skills, the commitment to be presentable, punctual and motivated and the two-week work experience placement can make it easier for you to find what you re looking for. One foyer resident who has benefited from this programme is Leigh- Ann. Before joining the Ready for Work programme, Leigh-Ann had been unemployed for 6 months. She attended the Freshfields open afternoon and secured a two week placement in the Reprographics Department. On completion she registered with an agency and immediately secured temporary employment in the reprographics department of another law firm. All been a reminder bringing back the communicating, planning, preparing. ThingsI have done before... the experience has shown me thati can still do it. of it has skills I knewi had: Step 1: Open afternoon The open afternoon will give you an idea of the types of placements on offer and an opportunity to meet some of the people who work here. They will chat through your CV and registration form with you and find out which areas of work you are interested in. Step 2: Interview This is your opportunity to meet the person who runs the team you might be working in. They will interview you about why you would like the placement in their department. They are not looking at what you have done, or the skills you have, they are looking for people who are interested in being part of their team. If the interview is successful (and if you are ready for work they usually are), you will be offered a placement and matched with a buddy. Step 3: Buy new suit This is when you meet your buddy, and they will take you shopping to buy a suit. The cost of the suit, and your travel and lunch expenses are met throughout the placement.
