Agenda 1. Company 2. Technology 3. Jet Selective technology - NEW 4. Making antennas via Jet Selective technology 3
Company history 1997 Innovative metallization technology developed 2007 Start of Jet Metal Technologies 2009 First commercial line sold th commercial line installed Today: Located in Lyon, France ~ 25 people of which 10 lab people 70% of sales are realized outside France (USA, Poland, Mexico, ) 4
Company strategy: Sell technology Investment good: Total CUSTOMIZED solution provider Consumables: all needed chemicals and spare parts Offering Complete customized turn key lines incl. components like Jet-Spray, Jet-Mix, Jet- Flame, Jet-Green, Services Pre and after sales services Expanded offering All chemicals: activator, oxidant, metals, varnishes All spare parts for Turn key line 5
Agenda 1. Company 2. Technology 3. Jet Selective technology - NEW 4. Making antennas via Jet Selective technology 6
Technology : metallization by spraying (1) 1. Spraying of 2 water based solutions (oxidant = metal salt & reducer) with standard painting equipment at ambient pressure and temperature 2. Redox reaction resulting in immediate growth of metallic layer on the substrate 7
Technology : metallization by spraying (2) 8
Technology : metallization by spraying (3) SEQUENCE OF PROCESS STEPS 1. Surface preparation (eg flaming, plasma, corona, ) to improve wettability 2. Surface activation 3. Rinsing with DI water 4. JMT Redox reaction 5. Rinsing with DI water 6. Water evacuation via air blowing 9
Technology : metallization by spraying (4) Basically all materials which can be made wettable (with or without a surface preparation step) can be metallized Metals and alloys like Zamak Plastics & composites Composites Epoxy composite Epoxy with carbon PA composite Polyamide / glass fibre PEEK composite Polyether ether ketone wcarbon Polyester composite Polyester / glass fibre Glass Ceramics Silicon Wax Plastics ABS Acrylonitrile-butadiene-styrene Acrylonitrile-butadiene-styrene / Poly ABS/PC carbonate EPP Expanded Polypropylene PA Polyamide PC Poly Carbonate PE Polyethylene PEEK Polyether ether ketone PEI Polyetherimide PET Poly Ethylene Terephtalate PI Polyimide PMMA Poly methyl methacrylate POM Poly oxy methylene PP Polypropylene PPSU Polyphenylsulfone PUR Polyurethane PVC Poly Vinyl Chloride 10
Jet Metal process: layer characteristics Ag, Ni, Au, Fe, Co, can be deposited but Ag based layers are mostly used in the actual applications Characteristics of Ag layers Layer thickness Typically 20 nm 2 µm Layers up to ~ 10 µm are technically feasible but cost effectiveness must be checked case per case Reflectivity UV: absorption Visible light: average 95% IR: > 97% reflected Electrical conductivity 2, S.m -1 (theoretical conductivity Ag: 6, S.m -1 ) 150 nm thick Ag metal layer give enough conductivity to allow electrolytic layer growth EMI shielding properties Average attenuation of db between 10 MHz & 10 GHz with a 500 nm thick Ag layer! 11
Jet Metal process: Advantages (1) 1. Environmental green technology Water based CMR, solvent & Pd free solutions 2. Cost effective alternative for PVD, plating, evaporation, High volume production as easy in-line industrialization Moderate investment cost as working in ambient pressure / temperature 12
Jet Metal process: Advantages (2) 3. Flexible: Metallization of complex shapes in small or big dimensions Metallization in both horizontal or vertical direction Metallization on many substrate materials: plastics, ceramics, glass, metal, silicon, composites, foils, 4. Low technology barrier because based on standard painting technology 13
Agenda 1. Company 2. Technology 3. Jet Selective technology - NEW 4. Making antennas via Jet Selective technology 14
Jet Selective technology: principle (1) One additional process step, compared to the standard metallization process, in between the surface preparation and activation Deposition of a pattern, which will act as a negative mask, by printing (eg inkjet printing, screen printig,.. ) with an organic protective layer on the surface of the substrate After the metallization step this organic protective layer is removed leaving no metal depositions where the pattern was 15
Jet Selective technology: principle (3) 16
